Finally, after months of wondering what that heavily camo’d sedan that suspiciously looked like a Aston Martin, we can confirm that it indeed is a Aston Martin, and it’s bringing back a historic nameplate. The Lagonda.

For those that don’t know the history of Aston Martin and the Lagonda, here is a quick refresher. In 1947, Aston Martin acquired the Lagonda company simply for an engine designed by W.O Bentley and Aston Martin became Aston Martin Lagonda Limited.

Then in 1974 Aston Martin came out with a super saloon dubbed the Lagonda. It was meant to be the ultimate in luxury and compete with Bentley and Rolls Royce. The problem though, was that it wasn’t really well received, even though it went on until 1990.

However, with this new iteration, Aston Martin will be trying to bridge the concept of the past with the modern direction that Aston is trying to proceed with. The new car will be quintessential luxury. Not much is known yet about the super sedan, but Aston Martin has stated that the new Lagonda will have V12 power, and that the body panels will most likely be carbon fiber. And to keep with that ultra luxury vibe, the new Lagonda will be very low production numbers and be hand built in the same space where Aston’s One-77 was built.

One aspect that has many reeling is the fact that Aston Martin has decided to only sell it to Middle Eastern countries. I understand that there is a whole heck of a lot of wealth there, but I think not allowing it to come to at the very least the UK is a big mistake.

Many have been thinking that Aston is losing its roots as of late, with testing at the Nurburgring, the Rapide, the thought of potentially putting out a SUV that thankfully just got cut, and the introduction of Mercedes engines.

Only allowing certain countries to purchase the Lagonda quite possibly could be another nail in the coffin. Aston Martin has always teetered on the edge of profitability and bankruptcy, this definitely has the chance to push it into latter if not executed right.

We will definitely see more of this sedan soon, so stay tuned! Talk about it in the forum. >>
