The DeltaWing racecars led their first 16 laps at Road America under competition. The team has faced daunting electrical and mechanical problems since their late start to the 2013 ALMS season. The Team’s parent company, Élan Motorsports Technologies, announced today that they now have a coupe version of the radically innovative sports car for sale. The three cars that are being built for sale will be in accordance to the 2014 United Sportscar Racing rules.

The DeltaWing has become somewhat of an underdog fan favorite since its racing début at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans although the car has yet to gain much on-track success. Off the race track the DeltaWing has gathered recognition from the press, being named Automobile magazine’s 2013 “Racing Car of the Year”, Popular Science added the DeltaWing to their “2012 Best of What’s New” list, and Autosport Magazine awarded the DeltaWing its “Pioneering and Innovation” award, among others.

The DeltaWing’s very first appearance was as a possible Indy Car platform chassis in 2010. When the IRL decided to pass on the radical DeltaWing platform American Racing royalty Dan Gurney, Chip Ganassi, and Don Panoz came onboard with designer Ben Bowlby to challenge the world at Le Mans in 2012. The coupé version of the DeltaWing will make its competition début on September 21, 2013 in the American Le Mans Series Presented by Patron at the  Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas.
