As we approach this upcoming January’s Detroit Auto Show, more and more rumors are circling about the next Ford GT that’s supposedly set to debut there.

According to MotorTrend, it’s a fairly done deal, and Ford will be showing off the new GT there. However, since we haven’t spied any mules or any camouflaged cars with a similar design lately, Ford will likely just show off a concept.

That being said, everyone’s been pitching their own interpretation or idea of what the next GT will look like and be powered by.

While the GT’s design will likely hark back to the originals with some updated features, the choice of engine seems particularly contentious. Most believe that Ford will slap its 3.5L EcoBoost V6 into the back of the new GT, especially since it’s likely to take the car racing as well.

It’s a fair choice, and the race engine has been repeatedly proven in the IMSA series. However, it’s my opinion that using the EcoBoost is not in the best interest of Ford.

Let me explain, Ford just released its new GT350 that uses a 5.4L Flat-Plane Crank V8 engine, an engine that Ford spent millions of dollars researching and developing over the past few years.

Ford needs to recoup some of those losses, and what better way than using that engine in the company’s newest supercar? It’s not like they are going to put a high-revving V8 into a truck?

Luckily, we don’t have too much longer to wait to see which theories prove true as January is only a few weeks away. So stay tuned, we’ll have more information as we get closer to the reveal.
