Lamborghini or Ferrari, Which Looks Better in Gold?

The supercar owners of the world are an odd bunch. Despite having outrageously fast and expensive cars, they are constantly trying to outdo each other with special edition models, modifications and wild exterior changes. Last year I found myself standing in a showroom full of these types of cars at the Lamborghini Miami dealership. Now this exact dealership has a Lamborghini Aventador and a Ferrari 458 Spider and they are both wrapped in gold. This is definitely a way to stand out from the supercar crowd.

The Aventador is a 2013 model and it will cost you a Grant under $425,000. From the best I can tell, it is still a stock car underneath that shiny foil, which means a 6.5-liter V-12 engine making around 700 horsepower and a seven-speed automatic transmission. Also lots of carbon fiber and exhaust noise.

The Ferrari on the other hand is practically a bargain with a price tag of just $378,950. It is also a 2013 model, and it too appears to be mechanically stock. Still, that 4.5-liter V8 is far from a slouch, and the sub-four second 0-60 sprint is more than quick enough to put a smile on your face.

If I had to take one of these two cars home, it would easily be the Ferrari. Not only do I prefer the look of the Fezza, and the disappearing top, but under that gold foil is the stunningly sexy Grigio Silverstone Metallic paint.

That means that when I get tired of having a shiny gold Prancing Horse, I can peel the gold wrap, and I will be left with one of the best and most desirable color combination the 458 Spider was offered in. Sounds like a win-win to me. Now I just need to come up with the $400k needed to buy it in the first place.
