Partying at Magnus Walker’s Porsche Playhouse

Magnus Walker Collection (14)

What do you do when you get your signature featured on a MOMO steering wheel? You throw a party to mark the accomplishment. Where do you throw that party if your signature says “Magnus Walker”? You throw it at your world-famous workshop that is home to one of the planet’s most genitally engorging Porsche collections.

Magnus Walker MOMO Signature Series Steering Wheel (3)

Magnus Walker’s new MOMO Signature Series steering wheel is a pretty nice piece of kit. Fitted inside Walker’s famous #277 911 (above), the steering wheel looks as appropriate as buttery syrup drizzling down a stack of pancakes. Holding the new Signature Series steering wheel in my hands, I could feel the essence of Magnus Walker washing over me. Suddenly I felt like I wanted to speak in a British accent, and sprout a foot of beard out of my jaw.

Hanging out at Walker’s shop is a dazzling experience, too. Beyond how the car collection does stuff to your privates, and how the new steering wheel does stuff to your mouth and face, the entire multi-sensory experience is remarkable. Just to speak about the smells, each one of Walker’s Porsches emits a distinct aroma from the interior, as if to communicate a sense of individuality and personality. Magnus’s collection isn’t one that must be seen in person … it must be sniffed, too. Only then are you getting the full experience.

And because the shop sits in the heart of downtown L.A.’s Arts District, the vibe as you stand among these Porsches is like an electric hum of creativity, the bricks and mortar surrounding the 911s is like the glass of a lightbulb, and the cars themselves are the light. Speaking of the building, when you stand on top of it, you get to see an interesting perspective of downtown L.A. For a metropolis, L.A.’s city center is relatively quiet. When I snapped the image above, I was the lone person on the roof, and at that moment I felt like I was the last man on Earth left to my own devices as a multitude of Porsches sat below me to keep me company.

This is the kind of stuff that runs through your mind when you visit Magnus Walker’s shop. The place is a trip. It’s more than just nice cars in a building. It’s a representation of a man’s laudable lifestyle … a guy who’s doing a damn-good job of living life.

Magnus Walker is the first non-racing driver to be featured on a MOMO Signature Series steering wheel. His name joins the ranks of legends like Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx and Jackie Stewart. Does that make Walker an outlier? No. In my opinion, Walker is a racing legend, too, but he’s winning a different race: the race of life.

If you fancy one of these steering wheels, get your wallet ready in a hurry. MOMO is only making 400 of them. You can place your order for one at magnuswalker.momo.com.

A note from MOMO: Porsche enthusiasts will have the first opportunity to see the Magnus Walker MOMO Signature Series steering wheel when it’s officially unveiled at the Rennsport Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (September 25-27, 2015). The weekend is organized by Porsche Cars North America and features a full schedule of Porsche racing, a wonderful array of historic road- and racecars, as well as selected exhibitors and vendors. Among them will be MOMO, with an exhibit featuring the new Magnus Walker MOMO Signature Series steering wheel.
