Porsche 959 Prototype Heading to Auction at Barret-Jackson
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of hundreds Porsche-o-philes frantically throwing their wallets against their computer monitors, hoping that it’ll magically take their money. I don’t blame them either. The Porsche 959 is a legendary car. This particular model is among the rarest most valuable a Porsche collector could hope to have.

The car that’s heading to Barret-Jackson is one of four remaining pre-production prototypes, two of which aren’t in running condition. Originally there were 29 cars, but the rest didn’t make it. Even when the car went into production, Porsche could only build 300 of them. At the time, it was a technological marvel. With 450 horsepower and all-wheel-drive, it’s capable of hitting 195mph. It was the among the fastest cars in the world. Hell, it still is.

The auction is taking place in Scottsdale Arizona from the 13th to the 20th and will be broadcast on Speed. If Barrett-Jackson auctions are a little bit rich for your taste, there’s always the alternative.
