This V16 Italian Supercar Has Lamborghini Roots

The V16 motor in the Cizeta V16T is likely the most unconventional engine you’ll ever lay eyes on. That is, if you ever see one (only seven were made). The engine is an achievement in technology. It wasn’t a V16 in the traditional sense, but rather two flat-plane crank V8 blocks that were mounted longitudinally (yes, sideways), butted up against each other, with a set of gears and output shaft between the two. Somehow they made it fit. I’d have to imagine it sounds ridiculous. It’s not going to sound like a leaf blower, that’s for sure.

If it looks similar to a Diablo, that’s because it was developed by former Lamborghini engineers and designers. The wedge shape came from Marcello Gandini, and was originally penned for the up-coming Diablo supercar. Chrysler’s controlling investment in the Italian brand meant this design wouldn’t see production, however, Gandini kept the design, and Beat Lamborghini at their own game when it came to production. From 1991 to 1994, seven were produced, including this right hand drive model, of which only three were made. Want it in your stable? Take a look at the advertisement, here.
