For the last two years, participants have competed in the Trans-America Challenge, a time trial rally race that begins in Halifax, Nova Scotia and ends in San Francisco, California. It pits vintage cars, no older than 1977, against one another on a series of time trials throughout Canada and the U.S. Among the participants this years was a 1969 Mercedes 280 SL, a 1969 MGC GT, a few Volvo’s, and a host of Porsches ranging from vintage 911s to 912s.

According to their website, “The Trans-America Challenge is an exciting classic car rally from sea to shining sea, through the spectacular sights of the ‘land of the free and the home of the brave’, organized by the hugely experienced ERA team with over 65 international events under their belt. The journey from Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the east coast of Canada, to San Francisco on the west coast of the United States will take the participants through some of the best and most spectacular scenery and roads that both the Canada and the United States has to offer in the company of fellow enthusiasts.

And this year, Peter and Zoe Lovett took home the trophy in their 1973 Porsche 911T. It took 22 days for them to get across Canada and the U.S., but the pair crossed the finished line in San Francisco a few days ago. There’s been increasing numbers of these vintage rallies going on throughout the United States, and this one is definitely on track to become one of the coolest around.
