cobalt94T is on a distinguished road
I think your making a smart choice narrowing the search down to a 92-94 C2. Great cars and undervalued IMO. A good clean solid car is a joy to drive. If your budget is $35k spend $20-25k on a low mileage clean car and you can improve it easily well within your budget.

I recommend modifying the suspension with bilstein HD's and H&R red springs unless you like it soft go with the greens but the reds are the best. Add an H&R, TRG or RS rear sway bar and then if you need it street legal throw in a dansk 100cell cat a magnaflow rear muffler I also recommend a chip if you want some extra grunt. If you have any $$ left over the best improvement is a Light weight flywheel. Do all these mods and you have a car that is more fun to drive than a stock 993 a little quicker too. Not that a stock 993 isn't a fun car to drive or fast. I added big reds to mine and it makes a perfect all around street track anything you want it to be 911. I am into mine for just over $30k but have a lot of mods plus seats roll bar belts etc, etc, etc and it is a clean 50k mile car. It also has Fikse 18" wheels which came on the car.

As far as the turbos go, even though the 91-92 turbos used the 3.3l engine it was still quite a machine. Assuming there are no issues with the CIS system they were quick with lots of torque. The 3.6T IMO is the superior car for many reasons but both needed the same suspension mods the C2's do and even though it is basically the same car it feels much different. With a few bolt on mods my 94 turbo is pushing out 430-450BHP (dynoed at 430 before exhaust work and is faster now) and is fast to say the least. Easily outruns a stock 996TT or 993TT and is very raw feeling. Not for the faint of heart. My C2 will run a scant over 5.0 to 60 and when I accelerate in the turbo when I know I am at 60 in the C2 I am looking at a solid 80+ in the turbo and accelerating much stronger than the C2 from there. The turbo is not a car for everyone and not many people can drive them to the limits without killing themselves but boy is it a blast to drive especially a modified one like mine. The turbo does require far less shifting than a C2 and has a much larger usable power band due to the tremendous torque. Although the interaction with the car is not the same and IMO the C2 is more fun for spirited drives on twisty roads however nothing is better than the turbo for smile factor. The car just has a feel about it that is like no other car including 90% of all Porsche's made to date.

GL in your search it is half the fun, and if your lucky you might find one with a lot of these mods already done.
