First oil change

How many miles or how long do you go before changing your oil filter when the car is new?

And how much do you expect to pay?

I thought that you only change it during the first minor inspection according to the booklet.

I did an oil change at 5000, and plan to have that service done every spring going forward. I'm only putting around 6-8K miles on a year, but that's long enough in my opinion.

reminds me of a color that started my love affair for the boxster... it was at a Porsche experience day held 5 years back. The color was called Zanzibar red if I'm not wrong. Havent seen that color around since...wonder if they still offer it

I did my first oil change at 5k miles at Leith Porsche Dealership in Raleigh. It cost right around $200.

Ah...another Raleigh Porsche enthusiast. Have you joined the local PCA? I haven't seen your car around yet. What was your impression of Leith's Service department??

Hi Crazed,

Yes I'm in Raleigh and I joined the PCA. I went to a couple events right after I joined but havent been for a while now. I've been really busy at work for most of the year and my wife and I just had our first baby so life has been really hectic. I'm going to try to make one of the Saturday morning meetups at Brier Creek sometime soon though!

It takes a lot of effort since I'm not a morning person

Unfortunately I cant make the drivers ed thats coming up either, got some family visiting at the same time.

Leith's service seemed nice, they didn't have a loaner for me so I had to wait. The head of service, Chris, seems like a nice guy and was happy to chat with me while I waited, so overall it seemed OK. They got me in and out of there fairly quick I suppose, but then again I don't know how long an oil change on a Boxster is supposed to take!

Hey Crazed1, nice car! Here's a couple of shots of mine!

I did my service at 20K miles (as per the owners manual) and paid about $700 at my local dealer.

hehe...I HEAR that! Saturday mornings can be tough for me too. I can't make the DE day either, although I really wanted to. I'm heading to Germany for 5 weeks for work.

I wasn't too impressed with Leith's, but it's not like there are a lot of options. They didn't have a courtesy car for me either, but rented me a G35. I had more then just the oil change done.

Anyway, maybe we'll meet up someday. CONGRATS on the new family member!!!

I did my first oil change in the Cayman myself at around 12K miles. From what I remember reading the filter is good for 15K miles. It's super easy to do yourself. Cost about $100 total for the oil filter, washer, and the oil.
