Exhaust Heat Question

I have had my 89 930 for about a year and have just recently noticed that when driving in town (stop and go) that the rear bumper on the passenger side (painted part) gets so hot you cant touch it. I realize that the muffler is just under there but this seemed so hot that the rubber could melt. Is that normal or have I got an issue? The engine temp is fine.

Thanks

Had the same problem but it melted my rear deflector, had to have a heat shield made and now it's not a problem, good luck. I'm using a B-B exhaust.

Thanks for the reply. I ran the car to the shop today to get it checked out. I think the heat shield might be my answer as well. I'll post the result for anyone interested.
