yep, i later learned that after Todd mentioned it to me and doing some digging in the archives on the previous owner.
way too many variables to blame someone... to the OP and anyone modding their car, i suggest:
- keep a $15k budget for the rainy day
- find a tuner local to you that can help you on that rainy day
