As i understand, there are two options for the 993 ROW models. A 3.8 X51 and a 3.8 Motorsport (same as on the 993 RS).

What will be the performance like?
This is an option that you can order back then. I had a c2 with 3.8L engine with 993tt brakes - all directly from factory, not done aftermaket ! I sold it 2 years ago and now driving a 997s, but really miss the 3.8L 993 .

Although the hp gain is not much, there is much more torque. After I sold my 3.8L 993, I drove a '95 3.6L 993 - it feels Sooo slow !!
I didn't push the car hard, the only draw back is it's a 4 speed tiptronic transmission. if I recall correctly the 2nd gear 125kph at 6000tpm, 3rd gear 220kph at 6000tpm

Is is a Porsche factory option. I had a car like that, if I remember correctly- the engine is 3746cc ! Although I don't know exactly the power gain from normal 3.6L. After I sold my car, I drove a normal 3.6L 993 - it is very slow by comparison !! The 3.8L just feel much more powerful (may be more torque). I really regret selling that car.
It is a keeper for sure !!!!!!

Thumbs up

I tried to get this on my USA 1995 993 and I tried everything to get Porsche to build an RS Clubsport..........nothing happened. I did have some friends in Europe mail me English broshures that offerd a special 3.8L factory engine conversion at a very expensive price. It was available over there if you tried........just like you could get a 1994 3.6liter TURBO engine in a 993 cabriolet.

If you want a 3.8L 964/993 engine you can easily do this...........it is not cheap and there is substantial power but if you want maximum power over 300HP then go with an open exhaust system and other modifications to make it worth it. My 993RS CS CLONE car laid down 325HP when ANDIAL completed the engine several years ago. When my car was new Porsche advertized it at 272HP and it made 325HP with no cats and Fabspeed Headers and a dual outlet Maxflo exhaust..........so I was up +53HP versus stock and up +15HP over a 993CUP car.

I am getting it ready to go back racing again after a 3 year hiatus...........I love air-cooled cars and anything about them!

a lightweight 993 3.8L RS with CUP car gears and lightflywheel will give FITs to stock 993 Twin Turbos and lightly modified cars..........I know I used to PCA Club race my car against 993 TT "S" cars and did not have much trouble getting by them.........had 993TT beat in Handling, braking, and coming off corners with acceleration.........eventually modified 993TT cars with ECUs started showing up with race ready suspensions.........then 100+HP is hard to beat.........was like racing well driven 996GT3 cars..........80+HP gets alot of car lengths on the straights and demoralizes you........Bill Auberlen in my car had no trouble still waxing them

Did you buy it from Europe? I understand it was only offered in Europe.
