Yep, GT1 is lame. Hence only two cars in ALMS, and only a bunch of privateers in FIA GT. It's uninteresting for the manufacturers. The real racing is in GT2, I'm glad Corvette racing has finally seen that:

Porsche ----GT3 RSR
Ferrari ---- F430 GT
BMW ----- M3 GTR
Corvette ---C6R
Aston ----Vantage
Dodge ----- Viper Comp Coupe
Ford ------ Ford GT
Panoz ----- ??????

4 of them are factory backed, all are production on production car chassy , and they are still almost as fast as the tube frame GT1 cars that have way more hp, bigger tires, bigger brakes and more aero.

GT2 is where road cars show how well they were designed for racing. GT1 is where people show how they can build a race car that looks like a road car. Any factory backed effort could dominate FIA GT. But even your A-game may not get it done in GT2, at least in ALMS.

Spyderidol is infamous around these parts
Further News on their GT1 entry - It wont even have the same motor as the road car. It will be a V8 5.0L.

Guys - remember that Rattel is proposing completely different GT1 regs for FIA GT series in 2010.
The FIA GT rules are not the same as the ACO and IMSA rules.
There is discussion to try and make them as uniform as possible, but I wont hold my breath.

Ummmm.... GM is running the Factory Corvette C-6R in GT-1 up to the LeMans 24 hour race.

After that, the Corvette is dropping down to the GT-2 class using a modified C6 Z06.

There is a BIG DIFFERENCE between the factory Corvette/C-6R and what's allowed in the GT-2 class.

The ALMS GT-2 class should be exciting this year with all the factory support from a variety of manufacturers.

man this is getting funnier by the minute. So now Nissan is going to GT1 so that they don't have to use their factory car and they can build an all out race car with a different engine and badge it as GTR. Just another smoke and mirror campaign by Nissan. They did this in the 80's with the Nissan that blue eyes drove and it had a V8. They are so good at smoke and mirrors. This pretty much shows Nissans mentality. lies, lies and more lies. They will definitely use the GT1 class GTR in the propaganda when they sell the GTR's. haha

Guess what P-car fanbois? GTR just won another award, this time it won the Wheels 'Best driver's car of 2008'
At the end, It was down to the Gallardo and the GTR and both were pretty much even throughout the test. But the final test where both cars had to go flat out up a crest and through a right sweeper saw the Gallardo having to 'back off' slightly, whereas the GTR was able to go flat out while still remaining stable. Simply awesome.

I believe in "fair and balanced," so I'll report this here.

You know that black plastic skirt piece of front under the front bumper on the 997? The one that always scrapes on driveways--- especially if your car is lowered at all? The one that costs ~$120 and can be replaced in 10 minutes?

Well, I managed to mangle the equivalent piece on the GT-R by running into a branch/log. How much for the part would you guess? Well, first you need to know that is part of an assembly and is riveted together with an under-body panel. It is only available as a unit.

$1550 is the price of the part.

Nuts.

imagine that, it just came out and it's winning all sorts of awards. Next thing you know Nobel peace prize winner, Al Gore will be driving one, since his research is nearly as monumental as the awards the car has gotten

Uh, more like Ferrari pricing. The porsche Skirt is $150, Nissan 1300, Porsche clutch $1000, Nissan $20,000. How much are GTR wheel lugs? $1000? In the trunk of every GTR is a tube KY, and it is there for your use so that when the service shop sticks it in your azz it doesn't hurt as much
