Mine was like that too initially. Basically you need to spilt the difference on the gap by shimming the head unit so it is centered vertically. Should end up with a 1/4" gap on top / bottom. Or, shim it all the way up and have the 1/2" gap on the bottom (less noticeable). I centered mine.
