Normally priced at $1100, we're now selling our lightweight flywheel kit (some say that's the best mod you can do on the Cayman) for $950 shipped anywhere in the US. This is for five units only...



With our single mass (Light Weight) flywheel kit you get considerably better acceleration resulting from less rotational mass. Just like what Porsche does with the GT3RS to give it an edge over the regular GT3. The car will no longer feel like a lethargic/lazy revving engine.

The dual-mass (or "twin mass") flywheel that we replace is effectively two flywheels in one, connected to each other by a coupling that allows the two flywheels to rotate relative to each other in a range up to 15 degrees, but with a small amount of resistance to this movement. This movement and the inertia/resistance of the mechanism and mass of the flywheels, therefore cushioning the power pulse variation that can cause gear rattle- this was/is the case much more on 996s than 997s. Dual-mass flywheels use a simple solid-center clutch disk. It is more difficult to change the speed of the dual-mass flywheel, whether accelerating it or slowing it down... that means besides inhibiting engine acceleration to some degree, it also inhibits the deceleration that occurs between every power pulse.

A single-mass flywheel is the same sort of design as a solid aluminum lightweight flywheel: a rigid disk of metal, either aluminum or steel. Our flywheel also comes with new flywheel bolts. The weight difference is significant with the stock dual mass weighing in at 28.5 pounds vs. our single mass at 14.3 pounds.

We have used our light weight flywheel kit on our own shop cars including the 996 and the Cayman S.

NOTES
After the car warms up and at idle there is some additional rattle/noise from the transmission. This is not very noticeable like on other cars but is normal just like on the 997 GT3RS.

We also recommend that you change out your Clutch Release bearing (approx. $150) and possibly your clutch at the same time depending upon condition.

Alex, Do you recommend to use the HD Sachs clutch?

Does the Sach increases significally the pedal effort do you recommend it for a daily user?

Or is better to stick with the OEM clutch?

Hey Gilles, honestly we've always installed it and paired it up with the stock clutch disc/PP. We ran the RS350 kit and different versions of it for 22K miles and two years (with lot's of tracking) so I'd say keep it stock unless you have some kind of bigger HP turbo kit on there? It's an analogue of the stock flywheel so you can certainly use the heavier duty stuff but I don't like the pedal feel as much that way.
