Kato, if you have k24s already then the 24/18 is an easier decision I would say. I would have done that if I had k24s, but I had little ole k16s so it was only a little bit more $ really.
Yeah, I know, that's what is making it a hard decision... The fact that I already have the 24's is making the cost differential that much greater! Oh well, this is all fun stuff and there are harder decisions that we must make in life at time.

Don't think I can go wrong but I do really like what I've seen with these new Alphas.

Does anyone know if the Evo 2871r's are considered Alphas? Same treatments done on them as to the A28's (which are based on the 60's)? I kinda like the idea of a slightly bigger compressor to maybe outpull the 24/18's up top? Is that accurate?

Kato. It has been proven that the A286 (alpha) will out spool and at least keep up with the top end power of a 24/18g. You can get like $1500 for your K24s. For all the labor cost, you should go with a better all around turbo. Call me. I'll pm you my number in case you don't have it anymore.

Ari, are you referring to the 2860s you have? Or the alpha 28s I have? You do have different turbos than I do, correct?

Selling your k24s is a good option if you really are leaning toward a different turbo. Good call.

I think what he means is that a new A28 car will run better at the lower boost levels (less than 1.5 bar) than a 3071 due to the fact that there is no lag. Which in theory will give you better performance. The power maybe around the same level, but I think when you start getting into the 1.6+bar area is where the 3071/6 begins to shine because they are starting to get into their higher efficiency range.

I could be wrong though, and TiALSport knows that I will be call Tony to upgrade if they come out with a A30 that blows my current 3076's out of the water.

Just hoping they could be a touch less secretive about it! Labor cost is insane in Japan and I want to do it right the first time ...

nope,
A28 is a 48lb/min wheel the 3071 wheel is a ~46/47 lb/min

but you get much more low/mid end with the A28's

the 3071 will be 'reformulated' soon though the 3076's have already been...which is what you want

Then there was a Journal Bearing vs. Ball Bearing evolution-both are still sold I understand. Then I understand that you built a new SS housing to that would bolt on to Porsches and sold it exclusively through Evo for roughly a year. Once that exclusive was released, the turbos hit the open market (recently) and they've been rebranded the Alpha series? Were other mods done to them as well? What's the evolution? It seems as if the latest and greatest are really the hot setup (A28's) these days offering quick spool and equal or greater than top end potential to a 24/18 hybrid...

What about the differences between 2860's and 2871's?

My mind is boggled trying to figure out what is out there. I think it would serve everybody (including Tial and it's tuning partners) to share the story and evolution so that we can purchase the best possible solution for our needs... The secrecy and guessing game gets old. Educated consumers purchase more freely!

What's the scoop????

Thanks in advance!

all of the above is true (although they have always been called the alpha series), but now we have the finalized version of the A28's which is the only one available now, no other options.

2860 vs 2871 is a 60mm wheel vs a 71mm wheel (A28's don't use either of them)

the A28 uses the bolt on SS housings, not the converted K16

I have the new Alpha 3076s and could not be happier. Great low rpm throttle response and they are still making stupid power at 8K rpm level. They could easily make much more power on my setup if I was to give it more PSI or RPMs, which I just cant afford to do at the moment given that I grenaded a pressure plate and disc the first time a drag radial was run on my car in anger doing a 60-130....
