Cost of install differs depending on where you take it. Cost ranges from 2.5-3.5k. If you're near southern California I would recommend you giving euro auto spot a call to get a quote. I thought their price for install was more than reasonable.

Yup! Had a hectic weekend trying to help a friend move into a place she just closed on. I need to go back to the dyno shop to get the overlay graphs because the person that did the dyno didn't know how to get the overlays printed.

a little teaser: ~ 90rwhp gain on 91 octane pump gas so far. just sent more data over to Mike@TPC, maybe a little more to go = )

will post video of the dyno as well as graphs comparing the TPC with stock and the RS350 kit this week.

UPDATE:

After reviewing the AFR, Ignition Angle, MAF(+tank vent), MAF(v), RPM, and Engine Load logs, Mike@TPC believes that while 360rwhp is good given the sub-91 octane fuel we get here in California, we should be able to squeeze out another 15rwhp or so if we can lower the charge air temperature and improve intercooler efficiency.

I'm going to look into it this week with Shane @ Euro Auto Spot by implementing some of Mike's suggestions and then maybe get another dyno done at the end of the week if we see marked improvement in timing adaptation.

Will post an update later this week.

Quick update for all you CA folks e-mailing and PMing me about my car:

close to my first 5k miles, getting ready for the first oil change. So far so good, not a hiccup as my daily driver. TPC is working on a new tune that will bring the power output beyond the current 360rwhp on 91 octane fuel. Should have the new tune in the car in the next few weeks. Will post my impressions along with updated dyno information as soon as I can.

Hey Kev, do you know if the silver 996 was the same 'mystery' car that destroyed everything on Supercars Exposed? The Techart 997 Turbo was beautifully sorted out, but that 996 had something evil under the hood.

Not sure, I've never seen that episode of the show. I do know that one of the silver 996TT belongs to VRAlexander, which I've seen on that show with his black CGT.

Carb?

Kevin, I read through this thread and it looks like the TPC kit has good bang-for-the-buck and a pretty straight-forward install (all things considered).

What do you plan to do this year when you smog the car?

Sean,

the car is an '06 and I believe the smog exemption where you just pay the administrative fees instead of smogging lasts for 6 years. I could be wrong, and if so, I'll be looking for one of those expensive places that will figure out how to smog it. In most cases the car will pass visual just by the virtue of the smog shops lacking experience with these cars, but I'm not certain it will pass the sniffer test.

If you're ever down in Socal, let me know and come for a spin in the car.

you have 5 years for new cars to be exempted from smog. 2010 you should be good, 2011 you will need to figure some stuff out. I have had several modified forced induction cars, and one that didn't come FI from the factory (E36 Dinan SC'd) Dinan had a CARB exemption on their kit. Jackson Racing always had good CARB stuff on their honda and miata kits. TPC doesn't look to have jumped through the hoops yet with their kit for the CARB exemption/executive order. My experience is that passing the sniffer is a bit easier (assuming you have your cats still) than passing a visual on this stuff. But, the cayman is a rare car...we are not talking about the kid with an integra with an obvious BOV and big-*** open element filter with no PCV return line hooked to it. If you have cats, don't have an obvious intake swap and the computer reads a functioning check engine light, you might be good. TPC needs to do some magic in their tuning maps to make sure their is a good balance of having enough richness in the A/F mix yet not be so rich that unburned hydrocarbons blow the sniff test. having good quality wideband O2 sensors and data logging many different runs under loads and dumping these files for analysis will help out immensely to get the right map loaded. I am not sure if TPC allows loading of a rich performance map (protecting from lean conditions throughout the RPM/load range) and another emissions friendly map that passes the 10 MPH/25MPH chassis dyno at the smog test stations. You might want to look into that. Having forced induction alone will not fail a visual test, it's just if anything in the intake/exhaust is different you will need a CARB EO sticker. And that CARB EO sticker doesn't need to be from TPC, just that the equipment looks as described in the EO (you can search these on the CARB site). For instance, I have a very modified rock crawler jeep and had to re-route the intake to make room for coilovers. Turbo City sells a Rock-it air intake for $189. Home Depot sells galvanized tubing and kragan an open air filter for a total of about $20. Guess which route I went and guess what the sticker says.

SOrry for the long winded answer. I love the cayman and have always thought they needed about 80-120 more HP but Porsche wouldn't do it for fear of cannibalizing their 911 sales. I figure with your car ADD your caymen will be for sale next year and then I REALLY need to come south for a test drive :P

later

SeanP
