Is seat weight really an issue ?

I see a lot of posts about seat weight . In this recent Gt3 endeavor I heard even more about seats and weight.

In my many discussions the general notion was "if you get a gt3 you have to get sport bucket, they weigh less" but I even see this on the Turbo and the 997 forums too.

I fit in all the seats and if I simply chose my favorite it wouild be the sports adaptives .
If I drove two equal cars with the only difference being the seat would the car with the lighter seat win? Is it really that big a difference ?

If I get it right regular sport bucket seat is literally a piece of a bare plastic. It for sure does not let your body to rotate or move - you just stick into there as a fish in a can.
It is extremely effective and extremely uncomfortable. And comes with 5 point seat belt, also very effective and very uncomfortable, as well as that cage thing that does not let you open the door so you have to figure out how to get into that small 911 car throw the window...

The issue is with overall weight, the seats are an easy way to reduce weight. The Adaptive Sport Seats weigh 65.4 lbs where as the versus the 26 lbs for the 996 GT3 Euro Club Spots Seats that I use for the track. Shaving a few pounds won't make a difference, shaving a few hundred pounds will.

the regular sport bucket seats are the same as the *** with out the power motors, so the weight savings is from the various motors not the seat cushions and plastic mold. Also if you are referring to the CGT or the 996 GT3 CS Seats they are actually very comfortable. I have done a number of long trips and many days and miles in them on the track, impossible for me to do the long trips in an uncomfortable seat. The 5 point seat belt is also something that I don't notice when I am using it, however I only use it on the track, on the street I use my standard 3 point belt.

Not sure what cage thing you are referring to, a roll cage, a full cage, or the safety netting over the window that race cars use?

If you know - what is the minimal possible weight for 997.1 car you strip it off completely, with 25 gallon fuel cell?

I don't know for sure, never heard of anyone stripping a 997 for track use, although AJ997S is doing one right now. I would imagine that you could easily take a few hundred pounds out of these cars without any difficulty. A buddy of mine stripped out a 996 GT3 and the carpet and interior weight a few hundred pounds, but he had a full custom roll cage installed and it brought the weight back up a bit.

I think in that ESP shop I live nearby they have GT3 cup car on display - looks like '05 - fully stripped but I did not ask them about any specifics. Just curious.

Cup cars are around 2500-2600 lbs, the doors are very light. As well everything is stripped out of these cars...everything!

Yeah, there is a local guy that has one, and we did a PCA tech night with his car. I also went to a lapping day and he brought his car out, what an awesome sounding machine

Are you getting custom made front console too? Post pictures, it is interesting to see.

Trying to be polite...When you say you are trying to get it right, it is apparent you have not sat in them...
It has cushions and leather in addition to the shell...I find them to be the most comfortable seats that Porsche offers. They don't come with 5 points belt, and you lost me with the bar thingy...

Otis, I agree that they are comfortable. You can add the sub mount bar and 5/6 pt harnesses easily.
