Seems like I saw a write up here (I think it was here) about installing upgraded injectors. I can't seem to find it though.

Given a decent amount of mechanical proficiency, this is a DIY task, right? Or did I just dream it?

 

It is difficult and time consuming...However you can do it...Try to find my DIY...

 

ok where in the centeral coast are you??? injector install is way easier in the san jose area,think it has to do with the elevation. well maybe not

 

I'm right outside of Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc. Not very may options of shops in the area without having to drive an hour+.

I don't have a 996tt...yet. Just weighing my options: Do I get a 996tt that someone has modded some already and pay more, or do I get a low mile, stock 996tt and mod it myself. If I go the latter route, I'm looking at what mods can I accomplish myself to save some coin and avoid a mutiny from the wife.

Ultimately, I'd like to do a K24/18G setup. The install of the turbos, exhaust, fpr, and diverter valves seems straight forward. An upgraded clutch is doable with help. I just didn't know about the injectors.

EDIT: Sweet! Found it. It doesn't sound as bad as the shop manual made it sound. When I read that the engine needed to be lowered, it made me a little nervous.

 

be very carful with the turbos and proper breakins good luck it's always cheaper to buy an already modded car, but you must be very carful. example mine is modded but not over driven me thinks most guys drive the pi.....outa their cars when modded (i may be wrong)and repairs are just part of the deal when something on a modded car breaks it's only an excuse to remod, not repair

 

Thanks for the input. I have found one locally that is low miles 18,000 and lightly modded (wheels, coilovers, ecu upgrade). It might be a good one to pick-up if only they would come down on the price a little.

 

I completed the install this weekend. To gain additional clearance, I lowered the engine from the rear several inches - just watch the slack in the A/C lines & clearance around the transmission /rear sway bar. I also unplugged the coil pack connectors as I am installing turbos & had easy access. Disconnecting these will provide additional slack in the wire harness sitting on top of the fuel rail. Tough job but it can be done - good luck.

 

how long did it take you DIYers and did you have a lift or no?

 

It took approx 10-12 hrs to complete (first time around and taking my time). I would be much quicker if I had to go into this again. Small hands will be beneficial as everything is tight. An inspection mirror, drop light and magnet that extends will also help. I did not have a lift but do not think it is required as most of the work is on top. I recommend raising the car on stands to bring the engine bay higher so you will not have to bend over as far. This will also allow you to lower the engine if desired. I know others have installed injectors without lowering the engine but it is really quick and easy to do and creates quite a bit of room up top. Also, I am doing a turbo install so the bumper, exhaust and turbos were removed allowing the the rails to be viewed from underneath. Let me know if you get into the install and have questions.
