I think not knowing, Paulie has a point. If you can afford a 997tt you can also afford a 996 GT2.... Thats what I would be choosing between.

Since I own a modded 996tt I would not sell it for a stock 997tt just yet. If I was about to purchase the order would be as follows - 1) 996GT2, 2) 997tt, 3) 996tt (modded)

So it sounds like the consensus is that a 996 GT2 is the better option than a stock 997tt.

I will start looking.

In terms of engine longevity, which do you think is the better platform. The 996 or 997, maybe too soon to tell.

Anything I need to lookout for when shopping for the GT2

I already know the answer most of us would give to this question but ask yourself, am I going to want to mod the 997tt? Will I be satisfied with the car as it sits or am I going to be like the rest of the 6 speeders in a never ending quest for warp drive? If you intend to mod then get the 996tt. It's already taken a larger amount of depreciation vs. the newer 997tt. You'll save yourself money on both ends, the purchase price and mods.

I've owned a modded 996tt and now a modded 997tt. Both cars are great. The 996tt has been around a while and can make more power than the 997tt with VTG's. I personally like the 997tt look better, but you simply can't beat the value of a pre-owned 996tt. Tough choice.

IMHO, I know many people on this board love 996TT including myself, but I'm seeing many tuners started developing mods for 997TT and I can ensure you that the products will be at least equal if not better than the 996TT's. If I'm doing this all over again (assuming I can afford both), I'd 100% go with 997TT.

I'm in the same boat.
The 996TT prices have come down, but a "good" one holds it's value.
For a little more (25 to 35k), I can buy the 997.

I do track once a month with my Nobles, so I'm more opt. to the 996 w/heavy mods. and won't feel as guilty.

Everyone is mentioning GT2, I agree, but at the same time I must know, what are you using this car for exactly??

It sucks on a daily basis, have you ever driven one? It's not a car for everyone, certain niche of people love the frills it gives it's owner, and those are scary/rewarding ones lol..

Just wondering, 997TT is so damn universal, sometimes I am jealous of my friends turbo and miss it's drivability, an hour in my car and I can't wait to get out of it!

Would like to have this answer to myself? I plan to have Tial A28/injectors/ Proto tune put in next week. Today I went out to try 997tt incase I would trade-in instead of mod. Drove 997tt for 30 min. Try to compare with feeling I had with 996tt. Better throttle resp/earlier boost/more top end power. BT handling at high speed. BT looking, I think, I like headlight but the rest near the same as 996tt. BT interior, look better but old one not bad at all. Improvement some here and there but not marginal. Bottom line: with $47,000 diff, $85,000 07' 19K & $38,000 01' 35K trade-in. Tial/Proto are going in as scheduled. Mod 996tt would keep me happy till 997tt price comes down. I do not think 996tt would depreciate much more. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks

Thanks for everyones input.

Car will be a street car with perhaps some track days though I doubt it. Car will live in Santa Fe, NM and there are plenty of rural twistys here!

Sounds like the GT2 is too much, not enough comfort and sounds like the 996 is the better value if looking to do mods. So I will look for an x50 / Turbo S or a very well done modded car.

If you are not going to mod whatsoever, the 997 is the better choice with much better factory turbos. However, I prefer the 996 looks, so that would weigh in for me.

If you plan on modding it, 996 all the way.
