vk430gt: We have purchased 3 of the 356 Speedsters over the past 6 months and I've had the opportunity to drive all 3 of them. I do not personally own them, as I purchased them for the owner of our dealership (Porsche of Omaha).
I will say that they are definitely not a "cruiser," type of car where you simply sit back and enjoy the ride. These cars need to be driven by a driver, and there's surprisingly quite a bit going on when moving down the road in one of these beauties.
I don't know for sure what you are expecting, but I think they are great to drive. It's refreshing to get into a car that actually requires some effort and thought, rather than some of these gadget filled luxo-cruisers that are sold nowdays.
I say go for it, and best of luck in your searching. Good ones are hard to find and can be quite expensive if you are looking for a collectible model.
