I would not buy this sure it looks good but it is underpowered with a VW engine. The good ones have atleast 125HP or more. Look at Beck also. It also depends who built it. To make it look pretty is easy to make it drive right is hard.

This car isn't about power, but nostalgia....

You are right it is not about power but with a VW engine it will not be fun. Concerning nostalgia than this is not the right car since it looks bare like a 356 or Speedster it is an update of what a 2006 would look like.

A 356 replica with a 1900cc VW engine is not that bad. The car is only 1600 pounds thats enough power for car.

Have you driven a 356 replica, I have and they are fun to drive. Maintance is inexpensive, VW parts are easy to find VW engines can be modded to more hp.

Beck speedster also uses the VW engine, the only engine I know of that can produce the 150hp plus is a subaru engine. Yes it is a different ball game when you have that much hp on a 1600 pound replica.

No you can order a Beck Speedster with a 150hp Porsche engine I beleive there is also a 165 version. High Marques in Morristown NJ sells them with these engines. There are several engine options including a base VW. There is no Speedeter with a Subaru boxster engine. I beleive they run around 27,000 last time I checked.

The one on Ebay looks fantastic. I remember an old movie about a silver speedster that's modded as well and races in the canyons. In the end, he comes up against a bad guy in a modded 'vette. Anyone remember the name of that movie?
