Does it mean that every car with a Turbo emblem in back is a Turbo? The 913 doesn't exist...a 913 emblem may exist, it doesn't mean that the car is a 913. Oh, wait...I forgot...it is the 5 cylinder P-car w/the Volvo engine...almost forgot.

913

So.... This guy made a custom badge.... 40 years ago.... one that looks EXACTLY like a factory emblem, and just left it on the car to age naturally? I don't buy it!

Maybe it's a 912 with an automatic trans. Maybe it's Canadian or Mexican. (Shelby never made a non-fastback Mustang... except in Mexico).

One thing I am CERTAIN of, the 913 is real and, apparently, quite rare.

This site is aimed at water pumpers, why not post this at pelican or rennlist...I am sure that you, your 913 and extensive knowledge of Porsche will be received with great delight.

Never claimed to be an expert. A lot of folks on this list do...

This isn't my thread and it is under the 912 banner.

When I'm back in the area, maybe the owner will be home to shed some light. In the meantime, I'll ask around.

Thanks.

I would bet it has a VW Type 3 engine in it and the person who put it in there decided to make a badge for it (912 + Type 3 = 913)

It has been done, and will always be done. Porsche never offered a car with a 913 badge, but a local guy who has a 911 engine in his VW bus also has a 913 emblem that he made, close to 30 years ago..

Of course I'm just an old school air pumper fan, and while some 912s may have had a Sportomatic, they, like the 911 & few 914s, that had that box, wouldn't have had a new name..

I would bet it has a VW Type 3 engine in it and the person who put it in there decided to make a badge for it (912 + Type 3 = 913)
Could be, in 1976, Porsche owned a bunch of 2.0 Type IV engines from the 914 series, stuffed them in 911 chassis and the 912E was born..

Looks like a VW engine, from the way the exhaust is run on it.

So did you ever find out about it??

This is really interesting. Not that there is a rare 913 model that Porsche made but the fact that someone felt the need to make a 913 badge to be different. Or it could have been a club like the r-gruppe except the 913 club.

Does this help? Idk it seems someone in the Magazine "Street VWs" owns a very different looking '913' I have to admit Im completely stumped as to whether its stock(but incredibly rare) or some odd custom job.

Old question on 913

My mechanic has a 76? 913 at his garage now. Was there today and ask if they could work on Porsches, looking for one, they mentioned that one but didn't push it at all. Didn't see it. What I'm seeing looks like maybe the 913's were modified 911's somehow but don't really know. Or care.... but if you want one... I'm in Jacksonville Florida. I'll give you the mechanics and garages contact info. They're on FB too.
