Looks as though the rear bumper color does not match the rest of the car.
The S4 are great, but takes some $$ to get the wrong car right.
Mine has 39k miles. 88 Silver/blk Auto.
THey are a whole heck of alot of fun to drive !
Good luck with the search, that is half the fun (so they say )
PS: If you have a 930 Turbo you want to move, we can talk trade and $$$
Porscheboy, I bought an 88 S4 about a year ago and have had it in storage most of that time. Its now for sale as I need to make room for my next toy. I drove it around a bit when I bought it and it was great fun. I found that it was very reliable but it only has 53,000 miles on it. I had a rear wheel bearing go out and that was a little spendy compared to other cars and I replaced a few switches and trim pieces (not too expensive). I also put a rear muffler bypass on to get a bit more sound out of the V-8. I see these cars going in two directions: ones that are driven into the ground with much deferred maintenance and those that are used on a limited basis and maintained well. I think that the value gaps between these classes will grow widely as the pool of nice ones diminish. You already see the value on some low mile GT and GTS's going through the roof.
I has two S4's. Loved them both except for the repair bills. Looking at the pics of the car brought back memories. I used to think the door panels on the 928 with the 2 speakers looked so exotic. I also love the way the back seat looked with the air vents in between the seats. Ohhh the times I had in those cars.
My bro had an S4 for a number of years, really cool car, but as has been noted the maintenance is not for the faint of heart. But imho one of the most elegant and well proportioned sports cars ever made. Not exactly fast by today's standards, but a very capable cruiser and fun to drive.
I think they are some of the coolest porsches ever produced. I think the body was ahead of its time and looks alot better than some of the square body styles goming out today. My dad has one and has had since '93. It only has 78k mi and i dont think he has plans to sell it anytime soon. My dad has had numerous porsches and i think the S4 is more exciting to drive than his 944 turbo was.
I have had 2 928s, and they were great cars, and with a little help, can really handle. If you are any good with a wrench, most of the service work is straight forward and easy. Great cars... but good ones are getting harder to find.
Agreed. I enjoy my 88 S4 as a great summer runner!

At 21 years old, make sure you have a couple grand a year to spend on necessary maintenance. The car may be as old as you are!
All the 928s of that era are coming due on a/c work, motor mounts, pan gasket, intake r&r ($$$$$), plug wires ($300), shocks, radiator ($1k), rubber hoses, oil lines, and electrical problems due to oxidation. If you understand all this stuff, then go forward with the right expectations.
An S4 can be trying to your patience and wallet. The early cars have their own issues and are older, but in some ways less complex under the hood.

I think that these kinds of issues are with all 20 year old exotic cars. I've had two 928s, and at every service my mechanic regularly examines the car for possible future issues and preventative maintenance. Like all cars, if properly maintained, they are no more expensive then any 20 year old 911, beemer, corvette, or other exotics. Parts are readily available (928Intl) and several other suppliers, and there are also many upgrades on the market. I don't know why people have the idea that they are expensive and difficult to own and maintain, and replacement parts are hard to find, nothing is further from the truth. Simple upgrades like performance chips, and exhaust modifications allow the 928 to perform against any other newer GT on the market
