Actual weight for the "lightest car" is not without its compications. The biggest variable will be the scales used for weighing. Recent calibration? Sensitive to light- weight cars or tractor-trailer rigs. I have seen a lot of variation from drag strip to drag strip as to the weight of some of my former racers. It's sort of first cousin to the engine and chassis dyno problems (variations from manufacturer to manufacturer).
One thing that could be eliminated as a variable would be to have everyone weigh with a full tank of fuel. This won't make the drag racers happy, but to use a subjective guess as to how much fuel is in the car introduces inconsistency. Gasoline has an approximate weight (subject to varying circumstances) of 6.25 lbs./gal.
Should we make a requirement of a full tank of fuel for the posted weight? Only way to eliminate that particular variable IMHO.
