944 turbo issue.........any advice?

I recently encountered an issue with my 87 944 turbo and was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on it. The car has an autothority MAF Kit and usually hits about 16 psi at WOT (wide open throttle). The issue started yesterday where the car started to surge, almost like a slight miss under normal driving conditions and when you give it WOT it would boost to about 10psi before cutting off almost as if it was overboosting and cutting the fuel but it never reached peak boost. I checked all the hoses, clamps, everything thinking something may have come loose but everything was in tact. Was hoping maybe someone could shed some light on it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks JWC. I will re-check the hoses and see if I can find anything. I did notice it does not matter if I am boost or not, it cuts out anytime I put it to the floor. Curious if it may be the TPS unit. Thanks.

Very possible. You can unplug the tps and run it and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then the switch is bad.

I thought MY TPS was dead so I took it off, opened it up and it was completely full of oil. Alot of these go bad so you may want to take off yours, open it up, spray brake cleaner in there to get all the oil/crud out then seal it back up.

Thanks all for the replies

I am now having another issue. 2.5 years and the car has been great but lately the TPS acted up and now something is going on with the clutch/tranny. 2 weeks ago I drove and got something to eat, everything was golden, car doing great, after eating I got in the car did fine until went to downshift at the stop light right after pulling out of the parking lot. The car would not come out of gear, once out it would not go back in. Thought it may be clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder so bled it but there was no air in the lines and it is still acting the same, I am at a loss so off to a shop I imagine. When it rains, it pours..........

Sounds like one of the small springs in the clutch disk has dislodged and is keeping the pressure plate from operating. Sorry to hear. Did you confirm your TPS function? May be the AFM if the TPS checks ok....may have a worn trace for the contact arm.

Good Luck!

Sounds like you need a new clutch if it won't come out of gear. How does the shift lever feel?
