Trying to figure in my cost of labor on this one

If the main cam gasket needs to be repaired, then figure about 5-6 hours for a shop to pull the box, reseal it on the bench, and replace. If the main gasket is ok, and the front and rear seals need to be replaced, figure about 3-4 hours. Front crank seal is another 2 2-3 hours on top of the cam seal replacement (timing belt all needs to come off for that, so it is a good time to replace belts, rollers, and even the waterpump since you will be right there). Oil pan gasket/rod bearings on an 951 is about 12 hours IIRC. The intake has to come off, the crossover pipe, lower crossmember, etc. You will want to do the rod bearings while you are in there.

To make it easy, typically I charge about 11 hours for waterpump, belts, rollers, all front engine seals (upper balance shaft, lower balance shaft, crank seal), and the cam seals.

Unfortunately nothing crosses over between the oil pan gasket job and the front seals job.

thanks, I am having the following done:
- everything you mentioned above plus
-electric fans replaced.
-odometer repaired as it does not work
-alignment
-the entire exhaust system replaced with all new pieces from downpipe to tail. I already had those parts so it is labor only.

The total cost is $2800 which floored me but if the part you quoted was 12 hours, there is probably another 10 hours worth of work there.

I wouldn't be suprised by that estimate. My local Porsche dealer is over $100 an hour now.

If you local in SoCal I know a guy who does em really cheap. It's alot of work to do the oil pan, put it this way...after having done it once I will never do it again myself too much headache usually they charge around 600-800 to do it but my guy does it cheaper so its worth it...atleast it is to me. the gasket is only 41 dollars lol the rest is labor ).

I would try to get it done as low as possible, but be careful cuz they are kinda picky cars
