Nice look forward to what you can do with the R888's. I'm doing the same 315 30 20's. Car is also at GIAC now getting some fine "tuning" haha. Goal is for it to be able to beat my 997 from a dead stop 1/2 mile on an unprepped surface but that's going to be a tough one.

 

I believe your 991 has the same mods as mine now. Let me know how the fine tuning goes.

 

All the same except I have a larger diameter exhaust. This difference allows the motor to flow more air and as a consequence can't use your same tune as it could run higher boost than targeted and can run the fuel system dry. I have the car to GIAC with 15 gal of ms109 so should be able to do a lot of dyno pulls and get it dialed in nicely. As soon as I'm good with the new tune, a meth system will be dropped in. I did this order because I don't want the tune to be dependent on meth. There are others that do the meth and then tune. I'm a fan of reliability and longevity like you and in no way will I do that.

 

Oh yes I seem to recall that you have GMG exhaust which I believe is a 3 inch pipe the entire length whereas I have the Tubi catless and am using stock tips. Any significant bump in power as a result of the difference?

 

No I can't go much higher than what you are at: 650 wheel HP (without meth) since that is already very close to the limit of the stock fuel system. It will just get there with a little less boost.

 

Yes I'm at 655 wheel horsepower on MS 109. I haven't tried it at that level since I got the car back in the middle of the winter here. Just been running the 93 tune which is 607. Even at that level the car lunges forward when Boost comes on much stronger than with stock Turbos

 

Middle of winter, right, it was supposed to be spring break and I spent the whole week there. Saw three Broadway plays, spent tons of money on Fifth Ave and saw the St Patricks day parade, went to the Met and most important of all, went to 28 Mott St. for Peking Duck.

 

Don't really want to try max power with race gas until things are warmer here with R888s on.

 

My r888's are coming tomorrow so I will get a lot of testing done.

GIAC ended up dropping power down a little on race mode in preparation of the meth install. I used the same tune (a little lower power than yours) but the same one used by the guy that just did 711 wheel on champions dyno. That guy was running a meth / water mix and I'm going to run 100% meth and don't want to blow the motor with too much power.

 

Awesome. So what is you've car making on the Dyno?

 

It made over 650 wheel on the GIAC mustang dyno with your and Karl's tune on it on Pure MS109. Made around 590 on pump mode. To give you some idea, my 997.2 made 566 on this dyno no meth. And that car flies even without meth.

So the 650+ wheel run was only taken to 6500 rpm. Car was starting to get lean as stock fuel system is done. With meth we are afraid this is going to be just too much power so a new tune was put on the car that made 615 race mode and 585 pump mode. We will run after the meth system gets installed but we think it will make 660-670 which on the GIAC dyno that is probably the absolute limit of long term reliability. 660 on that dyno is what the UGR TT Lambo/R8 v10 did.

The tune on my car that did 615 is the same one that with meth made 711 on Champions dyno which is a dynojet and so it might read a little higher.

 

Do you think your 991 will reach the performance level of your speedy 997...that thing is a rocket !!

 

Not sure. The 991 will have a lot more power and will achieve might higher top end (1/2 mile) speed. But the way I have the 997.2 setup just works so well. And by complete accident as it was tweaked in late 2015 to be a track car. I think dropping 100 pounds and using wheels that weight as much as a dozen red roses (with looks to match lol) is what makes it so damn quick to say 120 mph.
