Thanks as always for the great updates.

The window decal is a fun addition.

But -- and I apologize if I randomly swoop in with negatives -- the window decal gives me pause. It is, IMHO, up too high (too close to roof). It offsets the balance of the design and makes the car seem to have a long hood (a-la corvette, oops, did I just say that). It may be just the angle of those pics though.

I also think it might work better on a black band background, like the race cars. But that may be extreme on a road car when not on the track.

Sorry about the spoiler / spring delays.

I really dig the black mirrors.

Thanks for the feedback as always!. I considered the black band which would be great on the track, but while 'testing' the option, I realized that it would hide a lot of traffic lights in normal driving conditions. Since my 991S is my DD and my track car at the same time, I could not go for the band...
I am having debates with friends about this approach vs. buying a strongly depreciated M3 or 911, but with less than 12 days on the track this year, it would not make a lot of sense. And the 991 is SO great on the track...

The stupid wide angle of the iPhone lens must have something to do with that, but it will be worth checking. Thx

Good points. A tinted/see thru black band?

I like your thinking on the track. Hoping to do the same myself, and like the minimalism of not having multiple cars.

I thought about converting my GTI to a track car (it is already Stage II+, with coilovers, sway bar & BBK). I could easily remove all the trim and get a lot of weight out of it. Even go to stage III for a few $k and have a superlight 300hp+ hatch... but as fun as it could be i still think that it would be no match for the 991S.

Totally agree. Have a SpeedART spoiler wing on order for a month already but they keep telling me I'll get it delivered "next week" and as it turns out, it would still be in Germany!!!
Unless I have a solid confirmation this week, the order will be cancelled and I'll go with another vendor. I may eventually consider the OEM aerokit option. I like the 'retro' style of the ducktail but for now I think it looks weird. Maybe I'd need to see more pictures.

More soul searching on windshield visor stripe

I probably do not have enough to keep me busy these times, so I wasted a bit more of my time considering options for windshield decals and talked a bit with Kyle. A black band should be workable if I keep it above the level of the windshield sensors and it should in this case not bee too obtrusive for traffic lights.

Here's what I currently have on the car:

Same with a black stripe under the text:

Previous one but with the text in red (would match the red 'Porsche' that will be on the racing #'s decal I have on order for the rest of the tracking season):

and here's an example of the racing #'s decals:

Finally Kyle came up with what could be the most elegant option, which is a matte black band with a glossy 'PORSCHE' on top. My photoshop is not that good for this option, but I also have a pic of a real application:

I have all the options on order and am going to have some fun experimenting
If you have a personal preference, let me know!

Cars at the shop to get the Escort 9500ci installed. Had never seen it before, but removing headlights is incredibly quick and easy!
Interesting comment from the shop was: "it looks like there is still a lot of room under the sheetmetal to fit a bunch of stuff"... Good sign for what future Turbo's and GT's are going to bring

ManhattanSpin will become famous soon enough
Out of curiosity, how much did the escort with complete install come out to run you? My dealer charged me $2,500.

Let's say yours is a little on the high side, should be closer to $2k+.
Since this is a new model, I guess the installation time may vary depending on the experience of the shop with 911's.
I'll post a few pics later tonight.

Escort 9500ci install complete

Have been driving for a few days with the 9500ci now and am very pleased with the result as false alerts have dropped dramatically (less than 50% of alerts vs. 95% with my V1). One thing is tricky though, the factory setting for Laser is 'receiving', not 'shifting', so make sure you have the right setting before you hit the street

The radar detector is behind the plastic bumper and works well without being visible. Laser jammers are at the usual place:

The rear jammer is designed to be easily mounted on the license plate:

Inside the car, controls are installed at the right/behind the steering wheel. Not a big issue if they are not very visible since there are only a few buttons (and you almost only use the big 'Mute' button):

The main display goes into the 'ashtray' where it fits nicely. Again, with voice alerts, you do not need to look at it, unless when you are changing settings, and you better stop the car to do this anyhow!

Finally, the shop has integrated a green/red LED in the dashboard. I like this feature a lot as you do not have to look anywhere else to get confirmation of an alert.
