New tires: Pirelli P Zero to Michelin Super Sports
#31
Tried reading through all of this and not sure I got an definite answer.
What's the ideal tire tire for the Michelins for the 20" wheels and what's the ideal for the Pirelli's?
Besides price, I find more people replace the Pirellis with the Michelins. Any other reasons?
TIA

Depends on what you mean by "fit." I am sure it will "fit" on the wheel even though it is not the correct aspect ratio. Plus, I am pretty sure that the "N" rating is for the car (apparently Panamera) that the tire was tested on, not for any Porsche.

why wont pirelli match the michelin price on the tires is the real question? it isnt even close!!!!
arent the italians smart enough to realize the replacement rate for the Pzero on the 991 will be/is less than 25%. all their N rating testing is worthless

Thanks for all the pictures. The Michelins have a pretty substantial rim protector band on them, and it affects the way they appear on the rim. The shoulder area of the SS appears more rounded from the sidewall to the treadcap as well because of the "thickness" of the rim protector band. It's size makes the tire appear to be stretched onto the rim even though it is a proper fit.
I was unaware the difference in appearance was that noticeable. Strange, because for as many Super Sports as I have sold for the cars I have not had people complain that they look that different. I do see what you are saying with the difference.

It is definitely the optics of the rounded shoulder. That aside I prefer the Super Sports to the P zeros and the Pirellis were a good tire. The Michelins are just better in my opinion. I am very happy with the purchase. I got them from park Place through tire Rack.

Never really paid attention to the aesthetics of the Michelin PSSs. Have been through a few sets already and have used them on the track (I do not have a trailer so when there is a chance of rain, I run the PSSs).
They are with no doubt better than the Pirelli's (road feel, grip, noise). Like someone else said, don't compromise on the tires for a 911.

I bet the improved price on the PSS is a big factor in their popularity.
PS2 is a great tire also, but they may as well not exist, since they cost so much more than PSS.
The other interesting thing is the PZero N0 Front is only SL rated, where the PSS is XL/RF.
Most consider XL/RF better, so not to worry.
As for sizes it's very simple:
255-35-20 F
305-30-20 R
Many have commented that the PSS do not look so good when stretched on wide wheels.
Therefore, you will be happier with the 1 size wider fitment for PSS.

Are you using 305s PSS on standard Porsche 20' wheels?

I went with 305's in the rear and kept the 245 's upfront. I also did 7mm spacers all the way around due to the soft shoulder on the pss. I believe lunarx did the 305's in the rear and 255's upfront and says they drive and look just fine.
