Buying my first Porsche... Need advice

So I have been extremely loyal to BMW, but the new M4 is not doing it for me. I looked at the Stingray and then the 991. I have never owned a Porsche, but I want to try something different. In my case the 991 is a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I am comfortable spending the extra money.

So the local dealer here in Seattle was willing to offer 6% off MSRP on a 2015 C2. I did a little shopping around with dealers out of state and found 8-9% off MSRP. What is considered a solid discount?

Also, what are the must have options? I prefer to keep the total MSRP in the mid-$90s so I will not be going crazy with options.

If you look at recent depreciation rate and preowned posts, I'd consider buying a preowned nearly new CPO 991S.

If you want that bang, get the S model.

You can get a 120K-130K stickered car for 90-95K with less than 10K and most cases 5K miles!

Highly optioned and already heavily depreciated.

You'll enjoy the additional options a lot more than buying a stripper C2.

Regarding new:

5-6% off a new car is the norm on average.

8-10% is common and where you should be.

There have been ALOT of guys in your situation posting lately, and many of them have found some great cars. Read up. Lots of good info posted.

The base model isn't a bad car, but the 991 comes alive with the extra 50HP "S or 4S" model. Add options like Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono, and Sport Suspension and you have a mean machine.

Keep us posted on your search. I'm glad you've considered the 991. You'll love it!

Agreed, there are allot of good deals out there right now on C2 or 4S's......if it's your first Porsche get an S model over the base, otherwise you will find yourself wanting to upgrade a year down the road!!

STG and Thor both are giving good feedback.
I got around 6% on my 2013 at the end of January 2013. It was an average discount, but the lease special was pretty aggressive at the time. I kept it 18 months and loved the car. I had PDK, Sports Chrono, and 14 way sport seats, bose. The MSRP was 102 or so. I should have got the S though. The extra 50 Hp and TQ make a difference and the car just feels more athletic. If you were in the 90k budget range I would look to a CPO car or a 2014 C2S where you can get 12-15% all day long.

18 months into the lease, which was the beginning of Sept 2014 I bought a 14 Turbo for over 10% off. I love this car but I think the sweet spot in the 991 ranges is probably the C2S/C4S. The sound and progressive power is fantastic. I was in LA this past week and took a C2 as a rental for work and had to chuckle after living with the Turbo the past 6 months. They are worlds apart. The C2 feels more light on its feet and like a choo choo train building up.

STG is not steering you wrong. You'll appreciate the extra power, the aesthetics of the red calipers and not getting "S" envy 6 months down the road.

Tommy boy- I knew about the Turbo, but never knew you had the base before. Quite the upgrade!

Tommy, those are two VERY sweet machines. The Turbo looks amazing in white with the black contrasts. Having never driven a Turbo 991, I can only imagine the difference in power and feel.

To the OP, you've got some great advice from the guys here. I can add my opinions and say as well that you will not regret going the extra mile for the "S", simply for the extra power alone. It is all to easy to go crazy with options, but i have never regretted any that I have chosen over the years... in fact, always the opposite. In my current car I wish now I would have sprung for a few of the options I deleted.

Cheers, and enjoy the hunt!

I should have expected all the advice to go for more power on this site. Lol. So I could be wrong, but I find the base C2 to be plenty fast. Then again I am comparing the power to BMWs.

So based on what I have read on multiple forums I want to lease my first Porsche. There is no right or wrong, but I want peace of mind and I am fine paying for it. This allows me an easy exit if I run into maintenance issues and allows me to upgrade to the 991.2 S. I can always buy the car in two years if I fall in love with it.

Since I am going to lease I must opt for a new 2015. I hear good things about the PDK, but I beleieve the MT is the way to go. This is a weekend car! So figure I have ~$10K max for options and $2K is the essential sunroof. Not much room I know.

Also, I am thinking I should find a dealer offering the best deal and just have them ship the car. Has anyone been able to achieve 10% off MSRP on a 2015?

It's your money, but I'm in agreement with the other posts here.

I bought my 13 C2S well optioned and gently used. Original MSRP of 118k and I paid 82k. Almost 40k off sticker for a car that only had 8500 miles and a clean record was a no brainier for me. Essentially I didn't pay for all those nice options - PDK, PSE, SC, glass roof, etc.... and I'm still under full warranty. Of course I plan on keeping it for awhile so if you're wanting a new one every couple years then leasing would make sense. I would look at the S model though if you're comparing to a Stingray.

Fair point and I am in agreement that I should at least give thought to it. However, I know I can get a brand new less optioned C2 for perhaps $87K after negotiating a bit. The options are worth little on resale as we all know. Again, my biggest concern is buying a lemon and then being stuck with it. I want to play it safe which is something leasing allows. My BMWs have been flawless and rumor has it that's not always the case with Porsche. I believe every manufacturer has its share of issues.

What's the specs on your M4? I've been looking at possibly picking one up as a DD. What don't you like about it?

I'm really not versed very well on the lease game. I'm excusing myself from the discussion.

Good luck.

The new M4 is a great car don't get me wrong. I just don't care for the interior and I am indifferent towards the exterior. I would definitely take the M4 over the Stingray. Great DD too.

For your $90K range, suggest finding low mileage C2S, 2013/2014, CPO is a plus. If I were you, could sweeten up a pot and order a bare bone '15 C2S vs. C2 and keep it for a long time.

PS: great game tonight but sorry for the result. The rookie Butler did it for patriots!!

I get it, do an a affordable lease and in 2Y you can start new again.

I have tons of options, but the only ones I think you really need are;

Burmester (nice on long drives)
Ventilated Seats (nice on hot days)
Sport Seats Plus (if you take corners hard)
Voice Command (makes Nav easier)

Really, thats all you need.

Except for this option....
Buy more lease miles and daily drive it.
Weekend use is not enough ; )
