No dipstick

Ok yeah I have had 3 Porsches in 5years. I change oil every 5k miles, also on I change it after the first 2k breakin miles. So today changed the oil on the Turbo at 1.9k miles. So just like any 911 changing oil. Started the car up got the oil temp to about 160f, shut it off, waited the 1 minute and I get the " no information about oil level available at present". Don't remember needing to have the oil past that temp to register. What temp should I get it to? Seems like my 10 Cayman S and 13 CS2 I didn't need to get the oil that hot. Any ideas? Does it have to get to 194F or so.

Hate not having a dipstick after changing oil. I don't think I will every get used to that.

Can take up to 10 miles to register. Yes, it's annoying.

Thx. It used to take just a quick trip around the block 2-3 miles in the Carrera and Cayman. The turbo it seems, takes much longer to get a reading.

Don't mean to be a post hijacker but I just got a 2015 C2S and was wondering if I should do an oil change at 2K or so. The dealer says one year or 10K...I own this one so I think I should change it. If it was a rental (lease) I would go with the dealer recommendations. What do you think? Also, does the car need to be level to change it or would rear ramps suffice?
Thanks
Jan

I did it at 2k miles. I always think it is cheap insurance. I would recommend it. Look at the price of the car then the price of an oil change. I think it's a no brainer. I also look at it like during the breakin period there may be the most wear.

Still no dipstick though.

Thanks....I'm going to do it as well. I totally agree. Did you do it yourself? Can I just ramp the rear or do all four need to be up.
Thanks again

Ramp is fine. I use Race Ramps. They are wide enough for the 305 tires

I didn't use a ramp. You can reach the drain plug without a ramp.
The issue is finding a "container" that will slide under drain plug while you loosen the drain plug. I got the plug close and then slide the pan underneath the car. FYI 37 ft/lbs on the drain plug and 19ft/lbs on the oil filter housing.

Thanks...do you crack the filter housing open to allow faster oil drainage?
Thanks

Yup I take that off first. Just be careful and put some rags around the canister, seems to leak a lot. Even if you allow it o drain some. Good luck.
Another hint is slowly pour the oil into the filler hole when refilling. I learned that the hard way. Also put some oil in the oil canister after replacing the filter.
