991 Oil Change

I have done the oil and filter changes myself several times on my 991,but because I blew my back out wanted to get a dealer to do it. I called Len Stoler in Baltimore and asked " how much for a oil and filter only" They have to be nuts!!! $450.00 and three hours. I said oil and filter only. Are they nuts!

The local shop in my area charges $160.00 and does them all day long.

We need a list of good independent shops in the Baltimore Annapolis area.

Any one have a list?

You should sign up.
$85 and I use a Lift and they help me if needed.
My Son will be there, he can help you!

Good idea. I would like just to go even though I wont need the service right now. I was checking for later. As long as it doesn't rain I will be there. Thank you for the heads up.

I love when a dealers says it's a 100K car, small price for service $400.
Then I say,

This is why we can pay cash for these cars, we don't get screwed! $160.00 to $200.00 no problem. That gives them between $100-140.00 in labor. I would say thats enough. I don't even want my reminder touched. The last dealer messed it up and now it says next oil change in 2018

Next time you head down to Hilton Head, stop by my house. I'll do it for $400, and there's cold beer in the waiting room.

are there any issues with warranty on the car, if you don't get the oil changes by an approved Porsche vendor? i.e....doing it your self or (not that i would), go to jiffy lube?

The short answer is you can go anyplace and do it yourself. The proof is on the manufacture that it was not done or done correctly. Would I take a Porsche or any other high end car to a quick change station, NO WAY.

being retired I actually enjoy DIY oil changes, pick my own oil/filter...let it drain overnight..
I did the tranny fluid and front diff.(C4), refreshed coolant and PS fluid, flushed brakes..

Yehh I like doing it myself, save money and I know it's done right. Just wish there was an easy (read cheap built-in) way to reset the reminder. Like a lot of other cars.

I would like to thank Richard Siegman @ At Speed Motorsport's for being one of the tech helped the PCA members today at there location. He answered a ton of questions and one that puzzled me and I am sure some do it yourselfers.

Oil Change 3.4 and 3.8 engine

Some members ask why 7.5 quarts and others say 9 or even 10. Well he gave me the correct answer.

Our cars have an oil cooler, If you do a cold change and just let it drain you will drain about 8 quarts without draining the cooler. You should then drain the cooler by either blowing the oil out from the connection to the cooler if cold or if your oil temp is at 180 plus the cooler should be open and when you pull the drain plug all 9.5-10 quarts should come out. Fill at 8 and check hot.

Very nice shop.

Thanks again see you at my next change.
