991.2 Carrera vs Carrera 4 (both Non-S)
Help me decide
I am about to place the order
I was leaning toward a Base Carrera NON-S, but today it came to me that a a CARRERA 4 NON-S, is just $5,000 more
I have always liked the wide body look,
It Is my first Porsche, so i come to you, to see What you think?
What will you guys do?

good question
As far the driving dynamics, you don't have a basis of comparison if this is your first 911 right? The difference is very small so you won't notice anything in the driving dynamics on the road. The 4 cars have more weight in the front and with more inertia in the front axle, the car feels less rear engined aka more stable..aka less 911 like (but the difference is small)
On track the 4s pull through corners in a different way than the rear drive cars. a little slower in due to slightly increased understeer then more power sooner and the front tires grab and pull. Its cool. Not better or worse than the rear drivers, just different.
But the interesting thing is this: I have a 991.1 3.4 rear drive car. I have always pondered a 4 since its my daily driver in the north east. However, the added weight of the all wheel drive saps more of the already mild torque output of the engine. But now with the turbos, bot the S and base have waaay more torque down low, so its a good pairing with the all wheel drive.
I'd get the 4. But you can't go wrong.
Regards,
DRP

There was a thread about this subject not too long ago. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-thoughts.html

There is a video out there that runs a C2 vs a C4 on a very wet surface. I have been trying to find it but no luck. The C4 out performs the C2 on acceleration and turning by quit a bit. I have a C4 on order and seeing the video made me feel like it was a good move.

Thanks, i Also watched the video a day after ordering my C4, and like you say, it made me feel good about the decision. Tons of grip, but it still looks like alot of fun, going side ways most of the video

If your concern is driving in snow then you should spend your money on winter tires rather than a 4. Any car with summer high performance tires is going to be bad in snow. If you're really serious then you should also smaller and narrower winter tires.

More on topic. The C2 and C4 are the same width. The C4S on the other hand has the Turbos width. The C2S doesn't. So for a non-S car, there is no difference.

For studded tires, sure. For studless winter tires, width is king. I run my 996 Turbo on 295 rears, Hakka 7 studded tires. No issues, but I'd prefer the studless ones, sadly they don't exist. :/

Out of curiosity, how much different in price is the c2s? If it where me, I would spend the extra dollars to get the S model. If that's not an option, I love the 4wd versions, but I'm biased since I've had a 4s and now a turbo.
