Ball joint modification

I know that some of you have changed out the rubber "pillow" mounts in your ball joints. Is there any consensus on what works best in place of the rubber mounts? And, do these have to be custom fabricated or are they available somewhere?

The reason I am asking is that my fronts are already worn out and make a clunking noise when I go over any kind of subtantial bump in the road. I have been able to mitigate the noise by re-greasing and making sure everything is tight, but I am ready to get rid of the rubber and go to something else more durable.

Thanks,

Bob ....!!! Have you been tracking your car?

I just replaced the rear control arm bushing with solids from Cary (Smart Racer Products). Haven't gone after the rest of them but check with Ken (KPV), he has.

Hey Tim,

Just trying to get ready for you!

Seriously though, this coming weekend will be my first track day in over a month, so as much as I'd like to say I have been able to get some seat time in, it hasn't happened. You definitely have the edge on me in that department. Come to think of it, you have the edge on me in the car department too with all that you have done to it. Boy am I in trouble!!

My buddy Alex put the new PFC rotors on the car over the weekend and tightened everything up. That's where we discovered the ball joint issue. Thanks for the tip by-the way. I'll try to get ahold of Cary and see about some new bushings.

Ken, if you have any recommendations, I'd appreaciate any sage advice that you might have in this area too. The pics you posted a little while ago showed the mounts that you used, but I don't recall if you made them yourself or if you bought them from someone else, Cary maybe?

Tim. I'll try to call you later to see when you plan to arrive for the weekend. I am looking forward to it -- can't wait to see the new ride!!

Thanks,
