997 Shift Kit Install

Before someone screams 'search' ....

I did a search here and on renntech but couldnt find one specific to the 997 shift kit that didnt reference the B&M kit (that I am not installing).

i bought the 997 Shift kit. I know how to take off the center console but i am trying to reconcile how to install the shift kit based on the B&M instructions / B&M DIY.

I think what I need to know is what specifically needs to be done for the installation (without reference to the B&M) so i don't screw anything up.

Any information would be appreciated. Thx

Push the two springs up on the shifter cables to release the two cables. Then remove the several nuts/bolts holding the assembly down.

Thats it...release the 2 cables. remove the 4 nuts, take it out...re-install the opposite way.
Also, make sure you leave the plastic piece on to hold the shifter in the vertical position. Only remove it after the cables are secured.

From start to finish, it should take a person less than 30 mins.

Sounds about right, a dealership charging 3 hours...

I look forward to doing this as one of my very first DIY installs, the other being the rear wiper delete. Thanks for the additional information!

OK, just finished installing the 997 Shifter. This took about 40 Mins, max. Probably faster for me largely because i have removed the console numerous times in the past and knew were all the hidden screws were.

Thanks to all of the information available, I didn't run into any issues.

I took the car for a spin, and there is a noticable difference from stock. I have heard people say 10% difference in the throws but it feels more like 20% or so. Other than that, same basic smooth operation like stock, with alot less slop.

Many thanks for the assistance.

I have one I have been waiting to try as well.
I currently have BM short shifter and although I am used to its very notchy,
yet positive short throw, I would like something smoother.

Just completed the installation of the 997 linkages assy. it was an easy task. The only thing to take care of is to be careful with the leather on the console and the parking brake cover. Also to mark properly, before dismantling, the two push rod assy. I have used the B&M shifter assy removal installation PDF (15 pages) to do the job and it help a lot to locate the hidden screws... But it is late now and don't want to weak-up the neighbors. Road test tomorrow morning...

Just came back from a small road test and the shifter feel a lot more precise and stiffer. The throw, it is hard for me to say since my car has over 40,000 miles and the old shifter was worn, but I can say it is a big improvement. Money well spent...
