They do not come apart and if you try, you will wreck the seal.

joey mod in the mini cooper world consists of using a hairdryer on the seal around the headlight and breaking the lenses apart with a screwdriver. once done, using a primer and paint to cover the areas and then putting the lights together again. at this point, throw them in the oven and let them bake for 3-4 mins at 300 to reseal.

apply as you will...

i did them to my mini and had initial problems with the paint flaking off because of the heat from the xenons. after doing this several times, i just took the lights to maaco and had them shoot some color and resealed as mentioned above. no issues since.

most other forums call for throwing the headlights into the oven for x minutes at xxx degrees until the seal is rendered pliable. often times, however, this may lead to moisture intrusion as a result of a less than successful reseal.

not something i would want to do for myself.

Old thread but I have taken apart my headlights and painted the housings black on my Cayman. Couldn't use the oven as the heat had no effect on the seal.

can you explain how you did it then for people who may also want to do this (i dont plan on doing it, i dont think its worth it for a silver car but maybe on darker cars it is worth it)
