I've never heard of that. That's true on the C6 Z06 vs the base model tho.

What is the weight difference? The hydraulic clutch actuator, electronic sunroof + motor, rear seats/seat belts, motorized rear wing pistons/motor, spare tire/tools, and power/heated front seats all sort of add up. I left out a few of those in my initial post.

Like others have said drive both. I did on a rainy day and the GT2 was a total handfull. The TT was so easy to drive it was a no brainer for me. I wanted a daily driver not a car that would bite me like the old turbo's would when the turbo hit.

Thanks John H. & Gunther. That is a good point, if you go to higher power levels you still need to get it to the ground. I think this would be a plus for an AWD.
Read in another post about an upgraded LSD which helps the GT2 over the stock diff.

No AWD - 71 lbs
No Rear Seats - 20 lbs
PCCB - 30 lbs
Wear Wing - 15 lbs
Spare Tire??? - 20 lbs
Euro GT3 seats - 60 lbs

Porsche claims 3168 for the GT2 and 3395 for the TT I'm assuming both with no gas because the TT is heavier for sure. That would make it about right.

Thanks for all the input.
You can get a TT with the same Turbos as the factory GT2 turbos (X-50 or Turbo S is what they are called) . So I assumed you meant a hybrid or GT aftermarket turbo.

It does not take that much work to get a TT to where the GT2 is. Aside from the power level which will be the same mountain between a Turbo S or X-50, you need a decent set of coilovers and a rear sway and that's more than enough for the TT to handle as well on the street.

I honestly don't see how you'd get even 85% of either's capability on the street.

The GT-R is harder to drift than a 997 TT or 997 GT3, therefore if you are trying to drift, the GT-R will consequently get a faster lap. Normal apexing and driving not included.

See Evo and Car magazine for details.

GT2 is the rarer cooler car. however IIRC it DOES NOT HAVE TRACTION CONTROL
I could be wrong.
If you are not going to track the car then the GT2 is out. Really unless you have mad driving skills if you plan on tracking the car the GT2 is out cause you will kill yourself
buy a TT with the x-50 option. you get THE EXACT SAME ENGINE, TURBOS, AND INTERCOOLERS. nuff said

that tiny little tranny cooler on the GT2 and its LSD are crap and again only needed if you are going to track.

of course above is just my 2 cents and about what it is worth your results may vary.

I have owned both and currently have a GT2. As I have said before, the 996TT drives like the box the GT2 came in. There is no question in my mind that a GT2 is a far better way to go. The GT2 is not a "better" TT it is a totally different driving experience.

There are no electronic nannies to save your bacon. But exploring the limits of a GT2 is not for the amature. Driven is a proper manner, where you do not run out of talent, the car is glued to the track. If you are buying a track car because it has the electronic hand of god to save you, then you are in the wrong car.
