DIY: How to install 4" aftemarket speakers in our 996

So I wanted to upgrade and install aftermarket speakers in the dash and the rear. I did some research and there were a few ideas that I came across (velcro, custom brackets, etc). I know I didn't have those skills to custom make a bracket so I bought a set of Infinity Kappa 42.9i (cheap and affordable and sounds pretty good)
and hoped to figure out a way to make it work

I decided to reuse the oem speaker bracket.

Stock speaker

Started to trim off parts of the speaker

Disclaimer... of course, remember to have safety head gear before you start on this DIY

All done

Here are the tools I used to do this DIY

Metal cutter, Crazy glue and silicone glue

After this, I took off the stock speaker and test fitted my new ones. Obviously, every 4" speaker will be different in terms of their mounting points so I trimmed off part of the bracket so it fits inside the oem bracket

Before

After

I crazy glued parts the metal parts that were sitting on top of the bracket and then added silicone glue to seal the speaker onto the bracket

Let it dry for about 45 min or so and then put the speaker cover back on

Couple things to be aware of. The passenger side front dash speaker barely fit without any modifications. There is a screw on the passenger side that the speaker will sit on (at least the one I have).

The front driver side dash speaker however didn't fit. After looking at it, there is a circular plastic pipe that the speaker was sitting on.

So I took a dremel and cut out a peice and now it sits perfect.

Everything works and sounds great. I did the same to the rear speakers and they work fine so far.

Hope this helps

Edwin
