The build list states GT3 Cup heads with Cup Valves.

Did you use the Stainless Steel valves that come with the Cup heads? Did you use the solid lifters that come with the Cup motor?

You said a modified Cup cam was used. I am assuming the modification was in the lift and/or duration and the basic cam stick was utilized. The Cup cams do not use the same number of pointers as the turbo cams. How did you solve the 996tt ECU versus the Cup ECU issue as it relates to the cam pointers so the motor will operate?

Sounds like an interesting build.

Any news on this build, I thought it was on the dyno? I am very interested to see how theses engines operate at 8500! Hope all is well....

We worked out a deal with the customer to have these put in:

BBI Custom 3.8L Pistons straight from MAHLE

Wow, you are one heck of a salesman to get a customer to re open the motor after it is finished just for a 3.8 kit! Why just change pistons? I think I would need to be institutionalized if I ever went back in the motor. I love those coatings though, we had them done a year ago on Toms and my motor, ceramic coated crowns and moly skirts and wristpins. I think it is hard to measure the benfits of a small detail such as this but I truly believe that all the small details add to make a more efficient package. I know the ceramic coating works. While I was hand fitting my own wristpins, I had to bake a few pistons in the oven to expand the metal and I could touch the crowns after they came out. It was hot but not uncomfortably so. It definately rejects heat well.
How did the turbos do at 8500 rpm? did they carry the power all the way to redline. I am sure mine have more in them although I cut them off at 8K but I was wondering how much more can be gained in the last 500 rpms?

Being you have totally done up race heads and cams and now a full 3.8L bottom-end to boot, please tell us you've also convinced the owner/check writer to go with the GT35R's rather than waste the extra displacement and build on small GT30's......

This build would be awesome & make insane HP with the new GT35R HTA's with the ~62mm billet compressors*

Cup motors always came with hydraulic lifters. So we did use the “cup” lifters. The only engines that came with the solid (shim under bucket) lifters were the 2006 996 WC cup, all the RS and RSR lineup and the Daytona Prototype engines.

We welded custom index wheels on in a way that the ECU recognize them as TT cams.

I guess my Cup heads were 2006 996 WC.

Welding an index wheel to the cams so the sensors see the 996tt pointers .......interesting. Did you modify the lift? Same question for the duration which on the stock GT3 cams is designed for a normally aspirated motor?

One final question, when testing a variety of Porsche cams we were not able to find one that didn't have a bunch of harmonic distortion. Did you look into this issue?

PS ..... I do appreciate your straight forward answers.
