my key fob stopped working all of a sudden. the trunk wont open when i push the button on the key, neither will the car lock or unlock.
however, if i put the key in the key hole, or in the ignition, the car unlocks and starts
the battery cant be dead because the red light flashes on the key fob
what do you guys think the problem is ?

When was the last time you changed the battery? My light would flash but was too run down to open the door. Changed the battery and all was well. The batteries are cheap.

I have the same thing. I'll come back after a week and I have to unlock my car with the key. I have a brand new Optima battery. I'm curious to learn what this is about.

Normal.
Page 18 of my manual says that the remote function is shut off after 5 days to preserve the battery.

Best money ever spent.
I just did my first ever autocross, and had the 3rd best time out of about 25 cars. 3 of us were tight, The next car was 3 seconds slower than me !
I felt I had a lot more power than talent !

A low key fob battery will still blink the LED on the fob but not have enough voltage to transmit a strong enough RF signal to the car.
The battery is avalable anywhere and is easy to change. Give it a try.

Wonder if it could be the fuse or the receiving unit itself. I don't have a fuse box diagram to tell you which one. Sorry.

I'm in the same boat. Battery is relatively new and the fob works intermittently.

Where do you find the batteries for the key fob?

Remote
Sounds like the key remote itself lost its memory and unfortunatly the only way to cure that is through the piwis(porsche) tester. Either trying to reprogram the remote if you still have the 20 digit remote code or just buy a new remote and then program that with the tester as well..

First try unlocking the door with the key. That will take the car out of sleep mode if it was in it.
Next try putting the battery in backwards into the FOB. That "shocks" the FOB back to life sometimes.
Last go to the dealer and have them check it and/or reprogram it.

Trivia like this is useful, and definitely helps to explain some of the intermittent issues I've seen with my own fob. Thanks!
