Bose missing "mid-range"?

My 2003 Turbo with Bose seems like it's really missing the mid-range audio spectrum. (My '01 BMW 330ci without upgraded stereo sounds better.) The car only has 6,000 miles on it, so I'm hoping that the tweeters just need to break in and soften up. The sound seems extremely bright, and you can dial up the base, but the mids seem to really be lacking. First, is this normal? Second, can you do anything about it? I have no plans to start messing with amps and new speakers given the optical MOST bus. Thanks for any help.

The bose just sucks! I tried all adjustments it just doesnt sound good at all...I have the 2003 most system too, I am tired of it..I am going to get a Kenwood DNX 9140 and Alpine PDX 5 amp and call it a day. talked to one of the top installers in Chicago ,labor for install is $400.

I REALLY don't want to change the head unit. Otherwise, I would've ripped it all out long ago. You can get a head unit with a better nav, ipod hookup, bluetooth, XM, and Sirius, for less than I paid for my ipod adapter. I just don't like the look of an aftermarket unit in these cars. I guess you could add line-out adapters after the head unit, feed them through an active crossover, and then to some amps and new speakers. I don't want to head down that path, right now, though.

I feel like it's all highs, all lows ... no mid. The "depth" seems to be missing.

Hey Seth,

Common complaint with the Bose setup, get yourself a nice exhaust system and you will have no reason to listen to the stereo....

I have never heard an OE Bose system that sounded worth a darn, and I have probably heard a dozen different cars.

ClayMan is on a distinguished road
I've heard Bose in R230 SL and W220 S-class Mercedes and they're actually pretty good.

Seth

Mine had the exact same problem...you know what I did?

I cut the wire that comes out of the back....and put the Bose box under my bench..problem solved. Now I have an FVD symphony!!!

I already have one, and the stereo still sounds like garbage given the listening environment. I can't imagine how much my ears would bleed if the exhaust was stock.

So true. Like I said, my non-Bose BMW sounds fine. I've never heard a Bose system that didn't have the acoustics of a tin can.

IMO the only thing Bloowse excels at is their marketing. As was mentioned already the audiophiles say, "No highs, no lows it must be Bose." And, you're not crazy I'm sure your standard system, in your other car, sounds better than the Bose.

I've been listening to nothing, and it sounds better than my Bose...

I think Porsche screwed up on this one , They made a car with not so good sounding exhaust and no so good sounding audio...just plain boring on both fronts.

The exhaust part is a easy fix , no MOST bs to deal with..
