Getting some new suspension mods would transform it into a more fun handling car. Also maybe doing some aesthetic mods to give your car a new look like a GT2 Rear wing/decklid and front bumper, or if you want something more aggressive a Techart style front bumper?

I think some chrome strips around the wheel arches and windows would be awsome too! You will really get to bond with your car again.

(dont laugh too hard though...there is a elderly guy with a big grey beard in my town that has totally pimped out his 350Z! There is more chrome on that thing than my dad's old t-bird.!

Full motor build TT is about $50k, and you can do a stock bottom end TT version for $29k (UGR).

I plan on keeping mine and modding continuously over the coming years as the aftermarket continues to get better and cheaper for this platform... I've been more than content with this car as my daily driver for 20k miles over the past 16 months.

but... if my financial situation improves as much as I expect it to in the coming years I think the TT Gallardo will be getting a serious look!

the 996TT is the best and fastest commuter in the world! so reliable , F and L cannot even dream of this level of reliability... and then, take the same 996TT for the week-ends and seriously kick some buts! this bi-polar caracter is the one that tells me I ought to keep it... actually, it's going back with me to EU pretty soon...

This is a great topic.. its got my name written all over it. I’ve just hit this same point. What other car is there in my cars price range? My car, purchased 3 yrs ago at $70K is probably selling for $38-42K. Trying to find a car to swap at that price point is very tough. Lots of nice cars out there in that price range.. but nothing in comparison to the 911TT.

I had the pleasure to take out a 06 Corvette Z06 tonight. I would say that this would be a good car in our used porsche price point. However.. I just can't get myself to love it as much as the 911TT. Its an engine with a car built around it. I thought my Porsche interior was blah.. but the Corvette took that to another level. Its all plastic, I can’t believe it. It would be really nice if they threw some leather on there. Basically, if you don't care that you are switching from German to an American car.. and if you are 'performance oriented', the Z06 is wicked! But it doesn't have that "it" factor like my 911TT. I almost think like I’ve downgraded going from Porsche to Chevrolet. I know that its not a typical Chevy.. but you know what I mean.

If your looking to just do a straight trade and not put much money into another car, there are only a few cars. For me, they are: E60 M5, '06+ Z06, Certain Mercedes AMG's, possibly a 650il... those are the cars I've been looking at. But in the end.. its really hard to find something to replace the 911TT unless your ready to open up the wallet and throw another 20K into a trade and purchase. Looking at cars in the $60K bracket, things look much better. Beyond that in the 80+, your looking at the elite.. USED.. but elite.

+1 Seattle996. I had my car parked in my driveway the other day and took my truck out. When I returned I saw the TT from behind. Talk about a phat butt! These cars look badass.

I'd consider selling if it was stock. Full tilt Protomotive cars are just great so I plan on holding a while.

I have a buddy that has owned 2 996 tt's, and has been watching the market to possibly get into another (he bores of cars quickly, and is always changing them up).

He said he has noticed in the last couple months that prices seem to have stabilized, or possibly even jumped up a bit, and that there are not as many on the market. He has a dealer license and commented that this seems to be the case at the auctions as well.

Who knows, maybe most of those inclined to sell when the going got rough have already done so, and now the supply has dropped? Wouldn't that be cool if the prices now start going up? I don't think it would be totally out of the question, seeing that only 6k of these cars or so were sold in the U.S.

Have had my 996TT X50 for 1.5 months. My first Porsche. BIPOLAR is the best way to describe this car. I am able to haul 4 kids (yes, 4 children [12,10 with 8 and 6 doubled in backseat 2.5 miles to school with a baritone in between the front seats) and please my wife. Yet within minutes of dropping the kids off, I am dumbstruck at the performance of this fantastic car. I can tell you I can't see ever giving up this car at the current time period. Then again, only 1.5 months.

I went to a Ferrari get together last week and it made me think a little only because they are so beautiful to look at. Then started talking to some of the owners and got a lowdown on maintenance and learned that 355 & 360s need complete motor out work every 4 yrs or 10,000 miles one owner paid $18,000. for this service did some digging and found that the pump for the F1 trans is $16,000. Spark plug wires for a 355 are $200. each rotor caps of which you need 2 are $500. ea. The list goes on and on. Then you read that Ferrari owners think 15,000 miles is high mileage. What fun is that if you can't put miles on the car and if you do you are looking monster maintenance and repair bills. After that little bit of looking around I came to the conclusion that my car will remain with me until I can't drive any longer. A GREAT car at GREAT prices that you can daily drive with with proper mods and 600 wheel hp. What more is there to say.

Hey bro,

I bought mine for all the reasons that you are interested in selling. As an investment manager, I buy NOTHING unless I get a bargain! The 996 tt series car is the SINGLE best deal in performance cars! I paid less than $45k for a clean stocker, with a 3/36k mi warranty. It runs like brand new, still has $120k + performance for WAY less than 1/2 the price AND it comes with a warranty! Are you kidding me?

When I do mod it, I will spend close to $50k, and then it will OUTPERFORM ANYTHING else on the road, regardless of cost. Add to it the status of driving a Porsche, its the flagship of the line, and it is INCREDIBLY RELIABLE, there is nothing else on earth that can come close to this machine. . .

Just my "NEVER so humble" opinion!

Good and accurate post. But the funny thing is, if you go to fchat, the vast majority of owners talk about how much they drive their cars. However, most of their cars have fairly low mileage. Eugenio's Ferrari Service in Glendora Ca. had a website that listed their service prices, but they've taken it down. The service prices made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I don't think you can beat the TT for all around performance/price.
