2004's have a higher value, with 2003's next and 2002's last.
My opinion as to the REAL market value of the 996 GT2.. I just bought one and put 8 months of research into them.. priced out every one for sale in the USA and Canada, from 2002 to 2005 (2005 Canada only AFAIK, although I heard that 2 might have been sold in the USA)

Thank you very much for the real time info. How do you like your purchase?
If you check ebay right now, theres a silver 2004 with ~11k for 78k buy-it-now. Looks like a one-owner, but I have no idea about the history of the car.
That car was the deal of the century. Carfax was clean. But it sold yesterday according to the dealer. Not surprised...

It's quite amazing... I have owned a LOT of Cars thoughout my life, including multiple Porsches, BMW's etc, etc.. My last Car was a Corvette Z06 and it just didn't do it for me, so after 8 months of looking at all my options, including a Ferrari Challenge Stradale, BMW M6, Ferrari 430, Lambo Gallardo and a few others, I realized that the present market prices for the 996 GT2 put it well within my reach.. I looked at every Car I could and flew all over the USA and Canada looking at the Cars in person until I found mine.. It was PERFECT!! I bought it within 5 minutes of seeing it...
Natural brown leather interior, aluminum package, dark gray alcantara headliner and utterly flawlwss in every regard...

Like 80shilling I have tracked the GT2 market weekly since 2002. They really need to be broken out by year and by mileage.
North American (US/Canada) Car Production
2002 - 184
2003 - 90
2004 - 24
2005 - 7 (2 Canada, 5 USA)
I generally agree with the pricing noted above, however a premium is paid for the 2004 and 2005 cars of $5k to $10k due to the rarity and to the fact that they were improved versions with motor upgrades and suspension changes. The 2004 for $78k noted was an absolute bargain.
There is currently a 2005 on Auto trader for $94k with 10K miles, but it has sat for sometime -the history is not clear (e.g. nice one owner car).
We have 1 member who bought a very nicely optioned black GT2 last year with 1,895 miles for $91k +/-, the car was for sale for over a year and changed hands between a few dealers. That was a very nice car and a good buy. My guess today is that car would sell for a similar price with a patient seller. But most dealers and hi line after market guys won't touch them, simply too hard to sell. The car is not for everyone!
Any low mileage GT2 (5k or less) with clean history for $85k or less will be a good buy in the long run. It is an exceptional car for true drivers, it is not for the faint of heart. It has no safety net except ABS and your own good sense and that will make it Porsche's last great Turbo that was totally raw! 20 years from now people will not believe you could buy such a car for the road.
Great information and great reply.. I'm always amazed by the sheer depth of knowledge that exists on this Forum.. I used it as an invaluable resource to figure out what I wanted and what I could do with my GT2..

I just looked again and the 2005 I noted with 10k miles on Autotrader (still listed as a 2005) is in fact the same car on Ebay as a 2004 for $78,995. Car fax shows the car as a Florida car, sold at auction with 7,500 miles +/-, then it shows up a year later in California with current mileage. That makes sense, as it was sold new in 7/04 - before any of the 2005's were produced.
Still if the car checks out it would be a great buy at that price.
Just FYI, but I actually know of a couple of well-modified, low mileage GT2's that sold for well into the 6 figures... so really prices are all over the board.
Jerry Seinfeld's car is listed at RPM for something like $128,500. No idea if it sold yet, but I reckon it'll sell for at least $125-130K due to its unique pedigree.
One car I know of had about $80,000 of documented factory upgrades from Porsche Motorsport and sold for something like $170K late last year.
Also, Fabian Roock's RST 650 based on a GT2 has been on the market for $185,900 and they've turned down offers of $160K. It has a build sheet of something like $100,000 worth of Roock mods.
It goes to show, I guess the market is really whatever someone is willing to pay!
