What lift are you guys using?

I have seen a few of you have lifts in your garage, I plan on doing the same thing and would like to know whisch lift to purchase. I have about 12ft of clearance.

Links and pictures appreciated.

I have had my Pcar for 4 days now and I am LOVING it. I went from a 650HP Single Supra to the 996tt. So far so good, completely different car.

Thanks,
Jayson

I've had this greg smith lift for about 2 yrs now. Loving it.. can do oil changes brakes and all sorts of maint. that would just be a pain without it. I prchased the jack feature that makes lifting the wheels easy while on the lift. Cost about 2200 delivered I think and my brother in law and I built in in a few hours.

That looks nice. What is the minimum height required for that setup?

I'm not sure of the minimal height requirement, but I've got fairly high ceilings as the po parked a cube van in there. I'll measure the height tonight when I get home to give you more accurate info.

Can you drop the engine with this lift(is it wide enough)?

Your garage looks amazing by the way.

Thanks,
Jayson

I'll get you a pic but there is a jack that elavates either the front or rear of the vehicle. it mounts in the center of the lift and slides back and forth on the platforms. Yes there is enough room to drop an engine.. pretty sure any way. will look again when I get home.

I found the pics of the jack & wheel jacks on http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Ve...-Lift-s/36.htm

The dropping of the engine was a worst case thing, also, I want to be able to do my own clutch installs.

Thanks,
Jayson

2 post is so much easier if you plan to work on the car, especially dropping a motor or trans work. I went with a Rotary.

Thumbs up

This is the lift in the home I used to live in. <sigh> When you go looking for a lift talk to folks that have shops around your home. You might be surprised at what you can find! This lift was $500 It's FAR from ideal with the little speedbump in the middle but it worked great - still does actually. What's left of my Supra is on it right now A shop near my home was getting rid of it. They had upgraded some of their lifts, used this one for storage, and were looking to get rid of it. Score!! Doing it over I'd spend a little more and go new but if you're on a budget why not?

DO get a two post unless storage is your primary thing. DO make sure you can power it, some use industrial power and it's a hassle to convert - wood shop owners know this pain. Make sure your concrete can handle the loads. Get an OFFSET lift so you have more room for the doors. Pad the uprights with foam carpet padding! Make sure you have room above to lift - with the hood up! Make sure the garage door can go up, with the car up, with the hood up - put car on forwards and backwards when checking this. Make sure the lift goes high enough, mine was just low enough to put a crick in my neck... I could go on and on but after you've had a lift awhile you know all of the things you wish you had gotten lol I WILL have another lift if I don't get this house back, that maxjack actually looks interesting although a little low.

P.S. Skip the RaceDeck...

P.P.S. Note that's a standard garage door. The rails were extended WAY upwards and the spring moved. I could have a car on either way with the hood up and it would not hit. An opener would've been a good idea though as it was a little heavy to pull up. You don't have to use a roll up door to get clearance...

Mine:

My car on it...

Mine is older, made by AMMCO and is a 9K# unit... I've had a number of members here use it to inspect or do work on their cars, with my assistance.

It's the best $900 I've spent on any shop related equipment!!
