Solid Engine Mounts: What do people know and think?
Just curious. The new 997.2 TT has the adapting mounts...and I have toyed with the idea for a bit.
How harsh is it?
How much labor is involved in installing them (easy/hard..?)?
Can you actually feel it in driving/shifting....does the engine weight shift in turn in actually improve to the point of "feeling" anything?
Does it cause anything to wear out faster...?
Thanks guys!
Jeff

Not sure I understand your question... are you asking about fitting the adaptive mounts from the 7.2 to the 996? To my knowledge the 7.2 isnt on the streets yet hence not sure anyone can answer that point, however installing stiffer engine mounts is something a lot of people have done... its dead simple, you can install the x73/gt3 mounts as I have done, or go with Wevo mounts... solid mounts, as you refer to them are not recommended for road car use... thats solid as is used in the cup cars, thats not what the 7.2 mounts are by the way.
Benefits are more stable high speed cornering and better shift action under load if you have a 6spd.
I went with the billet aluminum wevo mounts on Mikelly's recommendation and I cannot tell any sharshness at all. So a big plus.

I'm installing the RS motor mounts in my 996TT. I know that when you buy the X73 suspension upgrade, they give you shocks, springs and stiffer motor mounts. That tells me the motor mounts are an important part of the whole suspension package.

The powertrain on the 996TT "porpouses"... It rocks up and down from the front of the transaxle, based on how hard you're getting into it. How hard? How about hard enough to knock an exhaust tip loose on my car.
The WEVO mounts are $300... The RSmounts are a fair amount more (I was quoted $495). With the WEVOs you can go with a semistuff bushing or a much stiffer bushing. I noticed more drivetrain "buzz" swapping in the new 997 tranny mount moreso than with either the Black or BLUE motor mounts.
You'll notice an improvement in shifting, and a more responsive drivetrain.
Mike

Thanks. I was looking at the new rennline parts....will check out WEVO too.
How hard are they to install....how many shop hours should I expect???

Mike where did you get them that cheap? Wevo's site wants $200 apiece
Rear mounts don't look too bad to do. Big nut from underneath, lower the motor, swap the mount, putit back up. I'm told the transaxle one isn't bad but I've not looked at it. Are the engine mounts as easy as they look?

He, and I , got them when they were still called the 911 carrera mounts, now that they make them for the TT, the tax went up

I think Mike is talking about the old-style mounts from Wevo. The recently released the 997SS mount for the 996TT and they are indeed $200 each.

Rennline has some for 250...solid metal....wevo seems to have some buffer/plastic/rubber in there.....not sure which is better. I do use the car on the street, so I am leaning to the WEVO solution.

According to Gert Carnewal, the RS mounts are stiffer than the X73 mounts. Both are rubber, but the RS has less.
The X73 mounts are the same part number as the GT3 mounts and I didn't think that the GT3 mounts were changed in the RS... should be easy enough to check looking at the PET.
