Driver-side window won't go up/down when door opens/closes

My driver's side door does not nudge up and down when you open and close the door. The window itself moves up and down with the window controller, it just doesn't automatically move when the door opens/closes. Is this an easy fix?

Thanks!

Just had the same problem with mine this week and had it fixed, works perfectly now. You need to buy a new door lock mechanism which contains the offending microswitch. It's not the door lock where the key goes it's the latch.

If you need the p/n let me know and I'll go upsatirs and get it from the dealer reciept. Bad new is they cost about $100 + an hours labour to fit and possibly a new door membrain ($30)

If the window works (ie: goes up and down with the button), the regulator is fine.

Thanks for the posts. If anyone has the part number that would be great!
I found 8N1-837-015-C but want to verify. Is this a hard install?

Thanks!

lol..I did. I tracked down the DIY and it doesn't seem very easy (which is why I asked if anyone on this forum has done it). Also, I posted the part number from that site but wanted to double check it before I bought it.

Thanks for your post!!

I looked at doing it myself, but for an hours labour by someone (who's less likely to break somthing doing it than me) it just didn't make sense to DIY IMHO. If you screw it up your into a door membrain at least ($40), and then there's always (a very small) risk you could set off the airbag in the door removing it (assuming battery disconnected). An air bag alone is $900 IIRC.. You also need to 'arm' the mechanism when fitting to ensure it latches correctly. I read the tech manual and decided to let a specialist do it for what it cost..

Each to there own and up to you!

P/N is 8N2.837.016.B my car is a 2002 996TT and this was for the right hand side door.

HTH

Interesting that my P/N varies to the one in Kims post..(8N1-837-015-C) - his appears to be a Cab so maybe the part is different on coupe/cab 996TT's?

Nice write up Kim BTW
