so I bit the bullet and bought OEM stuff from Suncoast- pads and discs. There are already some article on the web detailing the procedure but I thought I'd lend my perspective along with some pics:

Tools needed:
10mm hex/ allen socket set
torque wrench
screw driver
impact screw driver ( just in case)
wire coat hanger
pliers
needle nose pliers
mechanics mirror
plenty of soap for afterwards!

1- jack up car and remove wheel

2- remove spacer... if you're a wanne be racer like me

3-remove cotter pin from inner aspect of caliper pin with needle nose pliers. (This is a weird picture- I put a mirror in the anterior aspect of the wheel well to get a good view of the working end of the brake caliper)

4- use mallet to push caliper pin inward and then remove spring on top of pads
http://

5- pads at this point still will not come out as adhesive on pad dampers and spiders prevent removal

6- remove caliper bolts with 10mm hex allen wrench- two- one on inner top and other in inner bottom of caliper

7- remove caliper spring and pad sensors (connected to end of red wire- pull anteriorly with pliers)

8- spread pads with $5 tool from Harbor Freight- actually works just as well with big screw driver
http://

9- pull caliper off spindle and support with wire coat hanger! Then pull pads medially as seen
http://

10- with caliper out of way, remove phillips screw from disc and remove disc- may need impact screw driver although I didn't need one
http://

11- pull disc off- may need to use mallet...
http://

12- attach new rotor
http://

13- on work bench- pry rear pad spiders off pads
http://

14- on work bench- also pry off front pad vibration dampers
http://

15- pop in spiders back into rear pad caliper pistons and push pistons all the way in so as to have space to slip pads in
http://
http://

16- replace caliper on spindle with allen bolts- torque to 63 ft/ lbs

17- insert pads into caliper- if they won't fit, put caliper piston inwards until they do fit

18- reinstall caliper pin-- scrape clean so will slide in easy over spring and through holes in tops of pads

19- reattach brake pad wear sensors

20- reinsert cotter pin

21- reattach wheel

22- repeat 3 more times, once for each corner

23- have a beer and a motrin cause your backs gonna be aching- however, you do have the satisfaction of doing it yourself!

 

Great write up! I have done pads before, but will need to do the front rotors this spring!!! Rep for you!

 

Those sensors are a PITA... for those using pads with out provisions for sensors, or don't want to risk breaking and setting off check light, snap tie them up neatly behind the hub. I heat wrapped the ends for good measure.

Did this for both front and rear when brakes were upgraded. New kit came with sensors but I didnt bother. willll need to keep regular visual inspections, which is a good habit anyways.

 

Thanks for your effort! Very good write up and useful pictures. The only step I would like to add, because your are removing the rear disc, is "Release the parking brake" :-)

Nice post. I would just add a couple of things...

Make sure to clean new rotors with solvent before putting them on. They come with some kind of yucky coating on them that will foul the new pads.

And, I suggest latex gloves to avoid the look in Step #14.

hey i noticed you were wearing a watch as you worked thats a no no . have a friend who lost a finger because his ring hung up on a car part as the car was being raised on a lift. true story.
I(please note i caped the i) ofcourse have distroyed a few watches while working on my cars and somtimes scaped the paint with my watch... great writ up thanks
