oil change - how much and how often?
I am a new owner of a 996 tt. I am wondering how much I should expect to be paying for oil changes and how often I should expect to do it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Depending on use I recommend every 5000 miles for our customers.
Prices vary anywhere from 250 for parts and labor at a shop to a 400 at a dealership.
If you are tracking the car, I would recommend a oil service every weekend.
Its the cheapest insurance you can ever buy for your engine.
Only use a factory oil filter and I highly recommend only using Mobil 1 0-40

For street cars, I recommend 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first. Of course, I don't charge near what most shops do to change oil, so I can do 2 oil changes usually for what 1 oil change will cost at an larger independent or dealer. Even with a synthetic, condensation still builds up in the oil, especially if you live in a climate that changes drastically over the course of a year.

My local independent Porsche shop charges $150. I would recommend shopping around, rates can figure greatly.
I do 5,000 mile intervals, or once a year if the car does not accumulate 5k miles within the 12 months period.

I just slide a low profile oil drain pan under and drop the oil from the 4 drains one at a time. Once drained I put the plugs back in with new crush washers and fill up the oil tank. My car is even lowered on coilovers.

5K or once a year which ever is sooner. I use 5-50 as cold weather is not an issue in Socal but hot weather is. The engine uses less oil between changes with 5-50 than 0-40. Independent charges $150.00.

If you drive the car unlike most people then you should look into changing it more often as it a simple and cheap preventative maintnance. If your car is stock or built, if you race or drive on sunday it all makes a difference like Fabryce said. I do it myself and it costs me 65 bucks

Haven't owned my car long enough to have a routine down. Only owned it 1 year but the plan was 12 months or 5k miles. I had it changed by a shop when I first got it and it was about $200. I plan on doing it myself from here on out as I've always changed the oil in all my vehicles. Getting ready to do one soon. I bought my filter, o-rings, crush rings from Pelican parts. I think I may give the Mobil 1 TDT a shot since so many people seem to like it.
